Silca Locking Schrader Chuck

Great product, work for one bicycle tire, then the piece that slides up and down and holds the chuck on the valve stem just popped out and disappeared in my garage.I might have given a lower star rating, since it it now useless to me, however, I have used Silca products for 4 decades, and cannot complain about them as they are the best. This chuck had been attached to a silca track pump that I have owne, and used heavily, for over 30 years, the chuck, and one of the internal chuck parts, are the only part I have ever had to replace. Even the attached pressure gauge is accurate within a # or 2.This piece was a disappointment.

Valve stem depressor is too short to depress the valve stem before the rubber seal ring bottoms out. Latching mechanism slips off easily and on the unit I got, the latch rivet was buckled, causing the mechanism to bind. Also, the one sided latch causes the chuck to engage crooked because of the force needed to form a seal and open the valve stem. Was OK for a few months, even with the binding latch, then got progressively worse; pops off at least once on every tire now. Didn't really notice all the issues until function began declining. I may be able to fix it, so 2 stars, otherwise one, since it barely works now.

Although a bit more sturdy than the plastic counterparts, this chuck is poorly designed. If you squeeze the lever just a bit too far the locking pin falls completely out of the assembly and can be very difficult to find. Mine luckily fell to the garage floor that had just been swept. It falls out way too easily and almost renders the chuck useless. I ended up bending the lever so as to prevent the loss of the pin, but it became a game of how much bend was too much or not enough.

quality of the product was great BUT BE WARNED. Don't install it by twisting it on to the hose. cut the old hose, then push the new value on. twisting it (which is a totally natural thing to do) will make it go on easier but it will also torque the product and mess up the alignment. it works still but the seal is not as good. Just take the extra time and effort to push it straight on to the new hose and resist the urge to twist it.

Installed this on my old Silca Pista pump not realizing that there was a piece missing - the little sliding plate into which the lever fits. This might be the piece that another reviewer mentioned falling out of his unit. Without it, the chuck is completely non-functional. Too bad, it seemed like a good idea, but it's a complete waste of 18 bucks.

Works flawlessly. I put it on a Campbell Hausfeld FP2028. Suitable for any pump or compressor with a 1/4" hose, which 99% of them have.

Very poor tolerances. made in China and unfortunately, it shows
