Liar Liar

Funniest movie! I could watch this 10 times. In fact I think I have. Jim Carrey is hilarious in this film. The premise is based on that he is unable to lie for a day and everything that comes with that. Worth the watch for sure!

Excellent classic Carrey

The film was a pretty funny Jim Carrey vehicle suitable for the entire family. The concept is that a man's son makes a birthday wish (which comes true) preventing his father (Jim Carrey) from being able to tell an untruth. The problem is that the father of this child is a lawyer. Keeping in mind the old joke: "How can you tell when a lawyer is lying? His lips are moving", you can see how this could become quite an untenable situation for a man in his particular profession. When all of this takes place, Jim Carrey's character is in the middle of a major court case where honesty is the opposite of what he needs in order to win. Soon a whole collection of humorous situations arise as a result of his inability to lie to friends, co-workers, bosses, judges, spouse, etc. Although the film was an entertaining comedy, I must report that Universal has done a pretty sub-standard job with the video quality of this disc. I looks like a standard definition DVD, not like an HD DVD should (and, by the way, I should mention that the bluray looks no better than the HD DVD does). When it comes to Universal Studios titles, some of their discs look absolutely spectacular and others took pretty darned terrible--and there seems to be no way to tell which of the two it will be without first buying the disc, putting it into your player and just plain seeing what it looks like. This is one of the lesser quality ones. So, be warned that if you already have the DVD and are looking to upgrade the picture quality, you may be disappointed by either the HD DVD or the bluray version; stick with what you've already got unless Universal does a full remaster first. On the other hand, if you don't have this movie at all--and you can get the hi-def version at virtually the same price as the DVD--you may as well go for it.

Wenn man Jim Carey mitsamt seiner manchmal überdrehten Art mag, der richtige Film. Viele witzige Szenen auch mit ernst gemeintem Hintergrund. Der Film zeigt auf humorvolle Weise, dass es manchmal gar nicht so einfach ist, immer die Wahrheit zu sagen.

Jim Carrey - sometimes spectacularly brilliant, sometimes, erm, I wish I hadn't see that..! However, I believe this movie ties with The Mask as the perfect vehicle for his talents. Not only is Carrey utterly hilarious, incredibly quick, and just plain crazy in this movie, but he is also surrounded by an excellent cast, and all are expertly directed. In fact, everything is just perfect - the camera angles are spot on, the editing is a masterpiece in timing, the script is inspired, and the soundtrack supports it all excellently. ...but enough of the analysis! This movie is a non-stop hoot, yet it is also touching and tender, and even a little philosophical - but ultimately, I watch it again and again to experience Carrey's explosively preposterous comedy - I just have to think of him and it brightens up even the most trying day! It's a must-see - you'll never forget it, and always grin at recalling it!
