Great!
Very small size compared to other pastries. Particularly the donut extremely small like doll size pastry not kids pretend play. However it the quality is great! I like the two tier stand. Very detailed and cute. The price is under $10 which makes it perfect for gifts.

Lovely Confections; Size is Relative
This Valentine's Day I wanted to get my girls a very little something that would not be a throw-away something and wouldn't be another sugary edible (as they will surely amass these from other relatives). Fortunately, I came across this little pastry set, which for our purposes is absolutely perfect.Let me say first, that disappointment in the size of this play food is relative to what you're used to. Melissa and Doug's and Kidkraft's play foods - which are all made in China out of MDF (pressed wood & resin -- and contain formaldehyde) - are certainly much larger. We don't buy their stuff because of the China/MDF factor, and because they would literally dwarf our children's mini play kitchen - and they would take up more space than we can spare in our tiny apartment. We *do* own a lot of Plan Toys, Haba, and Erzi play foods - which are made of solid wood using sustainable practices in Germany and Thailand - and are similar in scale to this Voila set.So what size is this set?The lower plate measures about 5.5", the upper plate measures 5". The entire pastry stand, assembled, is 8" tall from the bottom of the stand to the upper yellow ball-like handle. Both plates are natural seemingly-unfinished wood. Much like Plan Toys, the pieces are smoothly and perfectly sanded. The white doilies appear to be screenprinted on the plates, which I'm very happy about - paper doilies would quickly be destroyed. The doilies are somewhat transparent and the wood grain shows through, which I find to be attractive. It's a pretty stand and would fit either as a centerpiece on our daughters' kid-sized table, or on the small countertop of their Hape kitchenette. There are 12 adorable pastries included in the set. The largest is probably the slice of chocolate cake; it measures about 2.5" x 1.5". That orange on the top? Still looks a bit like a tomato in person... but don't think the kids'll mind that. The smallest piece is the wafer, I'd estimate; it measures just over 1" square and is just over .25" thick. It is also the only piece in the set that appears not to be solid wood. I believe it is made of MDF - perhaps to simulate a wafer-like texture? It doesn't emit a chemical smell that I can detect, however, and one might hope they used E-0 glues like Plan Toys. If I get around to asking I may update. The rest of the pastries, however, are solid wood. Half are natural wood with a thin varnish and very little painted surface. The others are mostly painted a matte chocolate brown. All of the paint has more of a stain-type texture, ie. it isn't the type of paint that will chip off in big flakes (like Melissa & Doug's paint) if it is is dropped or roughly handled. Because of this, they may not be as glossy as some of the lower-end China-made play foods, but I find the images to be quite accurate and I think they're pretty. The cherry-topped cupcake and the white/black truffle (dare I say Nip'le of Venus?) both have paper cups which will be destroyed almost instantaneously. Fortunately, they don't look odd without the papers. Every piece, other than those previously mentioned measure between 1.2" and 1.8" and while they are a nice size, all but three pieces (cake, cookies, tart) will drop straight through a toilet paper tube. That coupled with the possibility of the orange or cherry detaching from the two pieces = definite choking hazard. Yep, this is a set for the 3+ crowd, or a supervise only set.Since there was so little information on this - or any of Voila's play foods - I think all of the above is important info for anyone thinking of purchasing, especially considering the price. For us, it turned out to the be the perfect fit, and I think it was worth every penny. For information about the best place to purchase, see comments.

Great toy (for 3 years and up)
This is a lovely toy of good quality, and will last for years. Our 3 year old loves playing 'tea parties' with it. It is a smaller set, but that is stated very clearly in the description (personally, I like it, because it stores easily and isn't heavy for little people to handle, as many of the Melissa and Doug sets are).I would keep it away from babies and toddlers who like to put things in their mouths, though, because the little cakes do look quite realistic.

Very small toy!!!!
We bought this dessert tray four our daughter for Christmas and I am extremely dissapointed with its size. We bought her a kidkraft kitchen with a few accessories from Kidkraft & Melissa and doug and I assumed this would match the size of the other wood toys and it does not!! The entire tray is roughly the size of my arm starting from my wrist and stopping at my elbow and the desserts are very small and do not look the same as the ones in photo. While this set is cute I would not recommend it to others. If I had seen it in person I would'nt of bought it.
