The Orvis Guide to Beginning Fly Tying: 101 Tips for the Absolute Beginner Paperback – Illustrated, August 15, 2012

Minor issue but it seems that this book has not been edited. So many typos.

My son-in-law was delighted to receive this for Christmas from me. It covers basics but also gives tips and suggestions for the would-be fly fisherman.

Easy to understand and great clear pictures.Would recommend to friends.

This is definitely NOT the first book you want to read if you are a complete novice. The author is indeed very knowledgeable and his tips seem to be very good, IF you already know what he is talking about. The author does not even introduce the basic parts of a fly until halfway through the book. I set it down and will revisit once I have learned the basics. A rank novice will find this book very mystifying.

Excellent book for beginners; I’m not new to this, but it had been about 20 years- I hadn’t tied flies since college. I needed to refresh my memory and get a few good patterns. This book has some great tips. I’ve learned some trivia didn’t know about before.

I love the pictures that accompany the text, they do a great job of showing what the author was taking about. The author was concise and very crisp with the information. It is delivered in a nice format that makes reading easy.

This book was concise and easy to read. Highly recommend it to beginning saltwater anglers. Covers the basics well. Enjoy

I thought it would give at least some tying recipes with details on how to. If you know anything about tying flies you may want to look for something more advanced.

A very interesting book, well explained, and laid out, always a good reference work, very pleased with my purchase as always.

This book is okay ,but is better to watch different fly tying on video.

Good but a bit too American for me

Not a bad reference book, but I expected a bit more from Orvis to be honest. If you're just getting into fly fishing it may be pretty helpful, but it's all very basic stuff. I expected a little more out of it. Good starting point. If you've done any amount of fishing at all, I'd pass on this.
