funny, action-packed
Ok, so where do I begin with this book? I read the original Fablehaven books as they came out and my 13-year-old self was devastated when the series ended about 7 years ago. Well, after very nearly an eternity and the last of my teenage years being drained away, this book was finally published. I reverted to that 13 year old girl and experienced that same thrill and excitement I did when I first read the original series. Despite being older than the target audience, this book does not fail to please. It's well paced, funny, action-packed, and nail biting. The entire experience is simply riveting. I love reading and have read a lot of books, but I have yet to experience a book that really gives me an actual thrill like these do. The characters are so realistic and relatable that I feel like its hard not to get pulled into the story. Kendra is a strong female character done in a way that doesn't make them emotionless or unlikable, which I've found to be a problem in YA as of late. Seth is a pretty typical 13 year old kid, his antics have not changed since the last books. Maybe pumped up a notch. Loved the book. I can see the set up for the rest of the series and I am liking what I see so far. If you have not read Fablehaven (the books previous to these), I absolutely, highly recommend them. Fun, action packed, and surprisingly deep for their target audience. As for Dragonwatch, I don't think I could have asked for more. This book is just about everything I dreamed of for 7 years. Lots of awesome dragons, cool new magical creatures, and the same old faces that I've grown to miss. 10/10.

It almost made me late for work because I had to finish it!
Dragonwatch is every bit as good as (or even better than) the Fablehaven series; a very satisfying read, and not just for youngsters - I'm over 60! There will be more books in this series, although I'm glad to say - this book stands alone and doesn't end with an annoying cliff hanger; you just know there is more to come. From an older adult's point of view, I can only think that if Brandon Mull's expertise in creating Seth Halverson comes from his own character, we can all be thankful his own caretakers didn't thump him into a coma before he became old enough to write. Seth is alternately sneaky and charming, unbelievably brave, supremely stupid and incredibly clever. (Just your normal, run of the mill little boy.) Well done!

Thankfully a spin off that actually works
The moment I found out Brandon Mull was releasing a follow up to his infamous Fablehaven series I pre-ordered it and when I had the chance to read an advanced copy it was like having Christmas all over again. My kids and I LOVED Fablehaven so I was openly optimistic and very enthused when I discovered his newest book was going to pick up where the previous series ended but focus on Dragons this time.Brandon Mull did NOT disappoint in this new book. His book is full of a detailed world any of would love to visit but to see it described through a child’s eyes makes it better. I always find it interesting how he describes the scenery a second time through the eyes of those who don’t know they’re surrounded by magic because it adds this whole other layer to the setting. I felt like I was actually walking around the Dragon Sanctuary. I wish there had been a little more about the Fairy Kingdom when Kendra went in but I cut Mull slack because he did describe it as a world undergoing repair. His dialogue was perfect. I could feel Kendra’s, and everyone else’s, exasperation with Seth. Newel and Doran always make me laugh so bringing them back was a treat. I like how he really captures so many different types of character personalities to the point you feel like these are all real whether you’re talking about a human or magical being.I’ve read spin-off series or sequels where it was so bad you felt like a disservice had been done to the original or that it came off like the author wrote it as quickly as possible to capitalize on the money without caring about their fans. This new book was thankfully not tainted by either of those issues. New characters were added to freshen up the story line, a plausible plot line has been created and it seemed like Mull took the time and attention needed to create something that would appeal to his fans who wanted more Fablehaven without sacrificing what made it so great in the first place.I am hopeful after reading this that the future books will hold onto the same charm and wonder he created in the first series.

A fabulous Fablehaven fantasy!
This is the first of a new 'sequel series' to the original Fablehaven books by Brandon Mull.I loved the original series and was very much looking forward to this new book and wasn't disappointed. This story follows on almost immediately after the events of the final Fablehaven book and throws Seth and Kendra into the world of dragons. We revisit a few characters from the original series plus lots of new ones. I really like the new characters especially Calvin and the new staff at Blackwell Keep and hope we learn more about them in future books. As with the Fablehaven series, there are occasional events which an adult reader needs to suspend disbelief and just accept this is a fantasy world and things that kids cannot normally do are perfectly achievable here!Overall a great start to the new series and my only complaint was that it ended and that I have to wait for the next one to be written!Thoroughly recommend :)

Easy to pick up.
I read the Fablehaven series sometime ago and accepted that there was unlikely to be anymore. So I was quite suprised when searching for something new to read to see this pop up.This story picks up not long after the events of the last book and is just as easy to sit and read as the others, it's not a one shot deal but is the start of a new series of Fablehaven books which is only good news (And they're written by Brandon Mull not George RR Martin so they should all be released before the next millennium).

Excellent follow on.
Truly excellent. I was excited when I saw this follow on to Fablehaven and I was worried that it would let me down but it didn't at all. It was excellent and I can't wait for the next one. I only wish it hadn't been so short.

Can't believe there is a sequel to Fablehaven and it's amazing. So good to see old characters mixed in with new ones. If you loved Fablehaven, you'll love Dragonwatch.

WOW
I'm a 17 year girl that read Fablehaven multiple times when I was younger. It still is one of my favourite series. I didn't read Dragonwatch until just now, because I couldn't find it in french. I read it in English, but I still wonder why there isn't a french edition? It's SO good. This sequel is at least as good as the original, and maybe even better. This first book is full of surprises and is tied all together very well. It's pretty simple to read, but has a lot of action. The main characters are still Seth and Kendra, and there is many other characters fans loved from Fablehaven. I strongly recommend!

Fantastic Humans v. Dragons Interaction
There are simply some splendid lines in this novel. I interrupted both my wife and teenager to read some out to show the power of the language. Particularly strong ending.
