That should put you in a better direction. **Q: If I use it to repair the top 4 or 5 inches of my porch post, is the paste strong enough to hold a 4X6 beam(beam is on side of post with bracket)?** A: I have personally used this to repair several areas around my house. I can tell you when it dries it is incredibly hard and durable. You can sand it, so if you don't form it perfectly you can smooth out any bumps. I was able to put screws through it as well. Without seeing the post my answer is this: if you are repairing decay and not the entire top of the post then yes. I would also recommend cleaning up all the rotten or broken wood as possible then spray it with a wood petrifier if damage is due to wood rot. The petrifier will hardened in 24-48 hours, then I would use system 3. The petrifier is relatively inexpensive. **Q: Could you use this in a silicone mold to create replacement carved trim on furniture?** A: I cant tell you about the paste , but they have the pudy that comes in some different colors and it works great, for making parts and pieces of lots of things including wood. I love to work with this stuff. There is a time limit on it though, but if you are putting it in a mold shouldn't have a problem. **Q: Can this be used on vertical surfaces? A standing wood beam has a crack. Or better to use the putty?** A: Most epoxy paste or putty would work. If it continues to enlarge, it could crack again. Caulking would allow some movement. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ great stuff - used tons of it over the past 3 years *by on Reviewed in the United States 12 June 2026* Love the Sculpwood/Endrot rot repair series - from the Borate solution, via the Endroot fluid epoxy, to the Sculpwood paste and putty epoxies. I've used tons of the stuff for patching up sidings, railings, deck beams etc. The paste is best for filling small cracks or tweaking your results once you've filled a bigger void with the putty variant and found imperfections with your job after some sanding. The stuff is not "elastic", so it's not recommended for filling gaps between moving parts such as railing tops hitting posts etc. Sculpwood was originally recommended to me by a seasoned painting expert in Napa CA, and I've never looked back. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent, hard to find product. *by on Reviewed in the United States 6 February 2020* You can buy the putty consistency epoxy wood repair all over the internet and some stores. This stuff is different and has been hard for me to find. Consistency is in between liquid resin and putty. The consistency of the resin part is like cake icing and the hardener is like a thick pancake or cake batter. When mixed the final product is somewhat between the two but as hard as any other wood fill epoxy when cured. Working time is similar to putty formulations out there. If there is a better product for skimming or filling grain for a mirror smooth durable wood surface (like a piano surface) on a vertical or overhead surface I haven’t found it. I’ve found that having liquid, this stuff and putty epoxy on hand has been invaluable in restoration and wood repair.Finally, don’t complain if you didn’t read the description of what you were buying. People that do that and wrongly drive down product ratings should be banned from giving reviews. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Did't know this existed *by on Reviewed in the United States 4 June 2020* A few years ago I hired a "pro" to fix some rotting decorative columns in front of my house. He patched them with Bondo but didn't fix the source of the water leakage nor did he kill off the fungal infection so it all came back. I tore it apart and, using System Three's RotFix, Paste, and borate products, I patched it up. I ran out of the Sculpwood Putty and ordered more but accidentally bought Sculpwood Paste which is really a thick syrup, not a paste.
