Gear Thunderhead Jacket

Great but heavy duty — the stealth fabric makes a strong selling point and delivers, but don’t walk into this thinking the product is “ultralight and packable” — it’s not. Sitka makes a different shell that fits that bill, but its not this one. The Thunderhead is built for rainy cold hunts, will keep you dry and quiet when weight is not an issue — but if you gotta shag it back to the trunk after the hunt is over, it’s gonna take up all the room in your scouting pack or you’ll hafta lash it to the outside: not enough room in my Alps pack to fit this and my Nalgene bottle and my kill kit. Something to consider.

This is a great jacket for backwoods hunting in the hardest conditions. With the Sitka base layers I hunted for 4 days in the snow and rain with temps ranging from 17 to 24 degrees during the day without any issues. Super light, quiet, durable and waterproof. Hood can be tightened to conform to your face while not bulking up and making it hard to turn your head. Did not get in the way of shouldering my firearm or hampering my ability to address mounted optics. Before going into sticker shock remember, you get what you pay for. Gear failing in any condition is unacceptable for me. The Thunderhead Jacket is worth every penny to me.

This is not just a rain jacket. It is a perfect outer layer for colder weather down to 15 degrees when you do not want to wear very many base and mid layers. Also makes a great wading jacket while fly fishing the nastiest of conditions. I got a large so I had room to wear over layers. 5’6” 160

Not a Winter jacket, great quality, very well made; but I would consider this an early season or bow jacket for those living in the north east like me. I am 5.11, weight 200 pounds, found the XL a little too big, still usable with couple of layers underneath, I wouldn’t use this jacket for temperatures around 20s , specially being windy, I could be wrong, didn’t tested, jacket was returned; but based on my years of experience hunting winters don’t think it’s the right choice for mid to late gun season. As always returning an item from Amazon is the easiest thing to do, their service is superb.

Received mine and immediately put it to use. The weather was getting colder and needed something over my usual hunting gear. This beauty arrived faster than I expected, and fit perfectly over my usual hunting gear. I'm usually layered up, thermals, and light jackets out in early fall. This jacket blocked out all the wind and moisture, so I stayed much warmer and dryer. In Rural Alaska*

A great item to have in your gear. Im from the Pacific Northwest where its always raining, so this is a must have item. This jacket is built heavy-duty. With my boots, Thunderhead Jacket and Thunderhead paints Im 8 pounds heavier. {boots are 3.5 pounds}

It works flawlessly like all other Sitka products I’ve used. However, the jacket is about 3” too short. I’m 5’10 175lb with 34” inseam. My torso is on the shorter side and even still I wish it were a bit longer. My Sitka under layer will hang out and get wet which isn’t ideal. Also my arms are bit bigger than average and the sleeves are tight on my forearms. Jacket doesn’t necessarily bind but it’s noticeably tight and uncomfortable because I can’t help but notice it and think about it. Again works great but Sitka needs to add about an in of material to the sleeve diameter and add 3” to the bottom of the jacket and it would be a perfect rain shell.

These are great gear but they are very expensive and aren't quite as quiet as I would like. They are pretty quiet for waterproof gear but at that price....
