I don't like romantic movies but after seeing him as Ratan Singh in Padmaavat, I had to know what his modern acting skills were like. I must say, this movie was the sweetest movie I have ever seen. I am so unlike the female lead character and although it is fiction, it was nice to see a story of how they fell in love WITHOUT there being a human antagonist in the story to keep them apart. The familial love was refreshing to see too, I don't know if families or even people like this truly exist, but the two families wanted the lovebirds to succeed in every way possible. I just can't say that I left this movie feeling lighthearted and refreshed enough! Yes, it is a long watch, but it is important to the story! The songs in this movie definitely had me wishing I could sing in Hindi. If you want to feel good after watching a movie, this one is it!!! Review: My Daughter really enjoys this movie! - (She's writing this review.) The roof top scene and song was sooo sad, as it was the main protagonists last day together before they head back home! Just seeing them all innocent, FINALLY talking to each other was bittersweet. And because of this, I. was. ab.so.lut.ely BALLING! Lastly, it's such a shame that self-sacrifice is the wake up call to some people to treat others nicely. Love this movie!

Beautiful, nuanced acting
This story shows the transformation of a young and innocent fellow into strong and passionate man. The catalyst for change is his arranged marriage to a lovely girl named Poonum. Her character remains the same--sweet and endearing. Shahid Kapoor's acting was just about perfect second by second. He showed the same talent and sensitivity in "Jab We Met." Every actor in "Vivah" was outstanding, except the mother/aunt, Rama, who was restricted by playing a stock character. Aggravating was how cheesy some of the scenery and soundtrack became once the action moved to the hospital. The cinematographer also took some cheap tricks, with staggered shots. The doctor's office and the signage in the hospital looked like a high-school shop-class project. The background music sounded as if the number of musicians had been reduced to only three, one being a snare drum. Did the producers run out of money? Anyway, I did love this DVD. The important aspects were done perfectly.

Favorite Bollywood Movie
This Bollywood movie is a favorite of mine. I watched this movie and became a Bollywood fan ever since. The movie shows two people entering into an arranged marriage. It has some pretty famous actors starring in this movie. I love the songs! I highly recommend this movie. I bought the DVD, just to be able to view it whenever I want.

and ethics are the basis of this story and if you do not like a long
Modern values are not what one should expect in this film. Traditional values, mores, and ethics are the basis of this story and if you do not like a long, slow progressing story then this is not the one for you. Modern films are much faster and much more energetic and very fun to watch, this film does require a certain time commitment. However, what it doesn't do for the modern viewer, it does much for the traditionalist among us. It's a love story but it tells of relationships between sisters (cousins), a father and daughter, of a daughter and her step-mother (actually a bio uncle and an aunt). It tells of the jealousy of love, as well as the faithfulness of love. If you do not understand that this movie is more than just a romance between a couple whose meeting was arranged, then you're not really paying attention to the story. I liked it, not enough to watch a second time, but I liked it well enough.

True Love
This has become one of my favorites! The familial love, as well as the love expressed by the people around this couple made my heart ache for the loneliness and isolation technology has brought here in the U.S. Two somewhat culturally different families bond as new love is born in their children and then begins to grow into something deep and lasting through the unconditional love these two young people have experienced all their lives. I agree with another reviewer that the chasteness of their love was refreshing and moving and the sacrifice they made to keep it that way until their wedding saw them through to have to make an even greater sacrifice. Maybe just a tad corny in one part (the airplane scene) but I thought the other musical parts were beautifully written and sung and the lyrics played an important role in understanding the Indian culture a little better. I've probably watched it at least four times!

a charming film you can watch over and over, Amrita modest and beautiful as the bride and Shahid handsome and funny as the groom. Anupam is always great to watch. and there's a terrible twist in the story but ultimately a happy outcome!

I’m a Japanese living in India. Some Indian dishes are extremely spicy, and some others are so sweet. This movie is like that to me. The first 120 minutes are so sweet, and love and affection are everywhere. I think this is an Indian way of having husbands and wives. Selected for engagement by parents, and learning the partner for the marriage. Then, the last 40 minutes are so spicy making me cry … Does God test us this extreme way? Enjoyed the story.
