West Side Story Original Soundtrack Recording

This album (or its single disc original version) sold by the millions in the sixties, buoyed by the hugely successful stage show but mainly because of the film. This expanded version (including interlude music, opening overture, etc.) is spread across two (red!) 180g vinyl discs is a glorious transfer, and you have to wonder at the clarity and detail that comes out of the grooves - but better still that special something you get when listening to music on vinyl. Apart from that, you get a terrific early-sixties style gatefold sleeve complete with notes about the production of the film. Best of all is the music itself. I don't know what Lenny Bernstein was on when he composed this, but some of it is just so funky! Yep, there's the more famous syrupy numbers in there as well - but what high grade syrup! A great, great soundtrack rightly celebrated on this magnificent two-album set. Forget the CD. Get this.

Wonderful. A collection of music that should have been in my collection years ago, sounds as good now as it did when the stage show first debuted. This is the accompanying motion picture soundtrack recording, did anybody think Natalie Wood’s singing made it into the film?

West Side Story was one of the first movies I really remember seeing in the cinema, being wowed by the music and dance, and finding the ending almost too much to bear. I used to own the vinyl LP of the original movie soundtrack, but sold it along with all my other LPs some years ago. In the meantime I bought the Bernstein /Jose Carreras / Kiri Te Kanawa CD after watching the TV documentary in the 1980s, and finally decided the other day that I really hated the mannered singing and lack of jazz feel. When I found this remastered original soundtrack it took me two seconds to decide to buy it. It is fabulous to listen to, especially if you have a decent music system, and takes me right back to how I felt watching the movie 50 years ago. Buy it!

Bought for an older friend - still is a great musical mod take on Romeo & Juliet. Great sounds of timeless songs

WHAT IS THERE TO SAY ABOUT THE BEST EVER MUSICAL OF ALL TIME

Not sure what to write in this review that won't be stating the obvious. This original soundtrack of the film is wonderful and brings the film back as you listen. Even my kids who haven't seen the film appreciate the passion behind the songs. A 'tour de force' to use a jaded phrase.
