very nice handheld anemometer
I have a need to be able to measure the flow of air and was looking for a low cost solution that I could get fast. When I saw the BTMETER BT-100 handheld anemometer I decided to give it a try. One review I read while deciding which product to buy concerned difficulty in removing the battery door. The battery door is actually very easy to remove if you know how. To remove this door you first need to remove the two screws with the provided screwdriver. You then need to pull the door EXACTLY straight out. The fit is tight so if you lift one side more than the other it will make it much harder to pull out. With the two screws out I was able to put a fingernail under each side on the part that holds the screws and pry up. If you do this or something similar it is very easy to remove. The instructions for this meter are very minimal so my next couple of comments relate to use of the instrument. The device measures temperature and the spec is +/- 3.6F. A lot of the reviews complain that the temperature measurement doesn't work. I put it in a room that is approximately 71F. The temperature on the meter was 69.9F which is within the tolerance. The important thing to understand is that it is very slow to change. It took around 30 minutes to get up to that temperature (I didn't measure it initially because I didn't know it was so slow). I am not sure why it is so slow but if this is important to you than FYI. There is a button on the meter so you can display temperature in F or C. The main reason I got the meter was to be able to measure the flow of air. The fan blades are very sensitive to air flow. Just picking up the meter causes the fans blades to turn. I don't know about the accuracy of measurement for air flow. For my usage it is more important to get a number then I want to know the amount of change when I change things and for this usage the meter works great for me. The only problem I had was I sometimes put the meter in a spot where I could not see the display. I finally figured out how to work around this problem. There is a button labeled MAX/MIN. Pushing this button toggles it between MAX, MIN and nothing. If it is in MAX mode it will continue to display the maximum value when you remove the meter from the air flow. I started to use the meter in MAX mode in the cases where I could not see the display. The main cause of this problem was the minimal instructions that the meter has. There is a timeout (to save on battery drain) where the meter turns off and it is approximately 15 minutes. When it turns back on again the units I selected for air speed and temperature were preserved. The MAX/MIN setting was not. This is a quick review that I will update after I have used it for a longer period of time if there is something else of interest to add. At this point in time I am very happy with this meter. I got it overnight free with Amazon Prime!

Does the basics, probably accurate enough for what is is. Hard to get battery cover off.
It does provide an air flow speed and rotates smoothly, so no reason to assume it wont work. Easy to set the desired units. If the need is to use this to get airflow, to then combine with cross-sectional area of pipe/vent to compute air flow rates, its probably good enough being an alleged 5% accurate. For sizing such flows its perfect. Not really for precise weather data capture. Getting the battery compartment open is a bit tricky, which is really the only ding I have against it. Removing the 2 screws is easy enough, but even with them out, getting the battery lid off is non-trivial as you have to lever it out from the screw hole areas, as the battery box lid has a box section that slides down into the body of the battery box space on the unit.. so its a bit friction fit there. Keeps the bulk of water out, but makes it hard to get apart to replace or remove batteries. A much smaller lip with an embedded silicone gasket to set against (held down by the screws) would have been a better design with only a $2 increased cost.

Accurate and Easy-to-Use Anemometer
I recently purchased the BTMETER BT-100 Handheld Anemometer, and I’m very impressed with its performance. This digital wind speed meter is perfect for measuring wind speed, air flow, and CFM, making it a versatile tool for both professionals and hobbyists. The device is compact and lightweight, making it easy to carry around and use on the go. The digital display is clear and easy to read, even in bright sunlight. I appreciate the straightforward button layout, which makes navigating the different modes simple, even for someone who's not particularly tech-savvy. One of the standout features is its accuracy. I’ve tested it in various conditions, and it consistently provides reliable readings. The built-in backlight is also a great addition for low-light situations. The BT-100 comes with a wrist strap and a protective pouch, which are nice touches that add to the overall convenience and durability of the product. Whether you're monitoring weather conditions for outdoor activities or checking airflow in HVAC systems, this anemometer gets the job done efficiently. Highly recommended for anyone needing a dependable and user-friendly wind speed meter!

All products should be this easy to use
After installing the batteries (a small screwdriver was included as a thoughtful accessory) it took less time to begin using this device than it took you to read this sentence. Press the "on" button and it begins reading instantly. The buttons are intuitive. Press "max/min" once and you'll get the maximum wind speed. Press it again to get minimum wind speed. Press it again to go back to normal mode. Similarly, "Avg" gives you average speed over time. Really like that this comes with a protective case. The backlight is very bright - even in daylight it makes reading so much easier. It's also a must-have at night (for those like me who may use it in darkness for measuring potential windchill). Backlight turns off automatically after 15 seconds (presumably to save battery life). I tried to see if this has auto-off feature but after leaving it on for several minutes it doesn't turn off. This can be a good thing when measuring min/max/avg wind speed though. Booklet that comes with this device states ±5% accuracy, and it's rated to 65mph (plenty fast wind speed for almost all occasions). These are decent accuracy and speed ratings for this great price range. Because this is a "directional dependent" device, I recommend using a wind sock or similar method of knowing wind direction. Aligning this device with the wind direction gives best results.

Works great, could use two small improvements
Firstly, I really like this product. If you want to measure airflow, this is a great tool, and worth the money. I use it for dryer vent cleaning and when replacing dryer ducts. There are two improvements I would recommend (both of which I work-around, today): 1) The font on the "units" is really small. I need to really squint to make sure I have the proper units. If your eyes are better than mine, you probably won't have this problem. 2) I am often holding this over my head, or under a deck, or some other place where it is hard to see. It does have Average and Min/Max modes, but I prefer to see the reading, and see how it is increasing/decreasing. Ideally, this would have a display that is angled, so it can be read when the screen is not directly facing the user. Again, the product is good and worth purchasing. When (if) they come out with a v2.0 that includes these features, I will buy it again!

Great little product. Worked great out of the box! Everything needed to use right away.
On the strength of a great youtube video, purchased this little device to measure wind speed coming out of my dryer before and after lint cleaning. Just a great little device. Very easy to use for this and other around the house applications like for furnace ducting and outdoor measuring wind to keep the local tv weather guys honest. +++++++Comes with carry case, screwdriver for access to battery door, batteries, the BT 100 and instructions. - Had some difficulty getting the battery door off. Had to pry it off as mine was an extremely tight fit. Turned it on and worked like a charm. No worries about buying one.

Wish the display light stayed on. Cuts out before readings can be observed properly. Decent meter.
Good little cheap unit. I can’t say it’s 100% accurate but it helped balance the airflow of the house after finding where the issues were. I just wish someone would make a meter where the display lighting stays on. This one shuts off after 4 seconds and when you’re in darker areas you need it lit up to see the readings. It shuts off before the readings are stable.
