Herb is an amazing human being and a talented writer
Herb is an amazing human being and a talented writer. I read his book in one sitting. Couldn't stop! So much of his personal story rang true as a result of my life's experiences. I lost my son Jared to the disease of addiction. As a parent who lived with this devastating family disease, I could FEEL his pain, shame, guilt and suffering! How brave he is to be so brutally honest. I plan to share this book this book with the people I know that are active in addiction, living with an addict, in recovery and those that need to learn what addiction is!THERE IS HOPE! And gratitude is a powerful thing! KUDOS to Herbert! You are a beautiful man!

... anyone fighting with Heroin addiction or family members and loved ones trying to understand the Craziness of this disease
A must read for anyone fighting with Heroin addiction or family members and loved ones trying to understand the Craziness of this disease. My son lost his battle to addiction, but in Herb's book he offers hope and life after addiction. A quote from his book. " Regardless of who you are, just remember, we may not be able to help everyone, but everyone can help someone." "The only way to win against this thing is to surrender"It's a great read, and a story you won't forget.

An honest and authentic portrayal...
As a recovering person who also works in the field of recovery I am often presented with many books, often written by addicts and their struggles. Most follow a particular style. Perhaps they are the victim, or the martyr or the hero of the tale. Herbs book is not a tale. It is, quite simply, the truth. An honest and authentic portrayal of what it is to be an addict and most importantly to recover. Herb has a way with his words that isn't addiction for shock value or hollywood movie intrigue. It is endearing in its ability to take you on a journey without smacking you in the face. If you struggle yourself or are connected to someone who is struggling I highly recommend this book. And when you put it down, having read the last words, you might feel the stirrings of hope in your own life or that of someone you care for. Why some people recover and why others do not is a bit of a mystery. But reading Herb's book gives one a glimpse in the possibility that miracles can and do happen in our lives. Where we can go from hopelessness to faith...and possibilities. It was an honor to have shared a piece of the authors life as he led me down the journey of his. I look forward to more of his writings.

WOW!! Still cant stop thinking about this book!
I purchased this book on Sunday morning and read it cover to cover by Sunday night. I could not put it down. The author provides a harrowing look into the mind and life of an addict. He does not pull any punches and spares us nothing. Speaking as someone who is not an addict, a "normie" I say that this book is a must read. This disease is destroying millions of lives... not only the addicts themselves, but families and friends. Those of us not affected really can't understand, but books like this help to bridge the gap... A MUST READ for everyone!!

this is not his firs offense for this horrible drug.
I bought this book as it relates close to home...I have a son who is a heroin addict and at the moment in jail in Japser County for drug paraphernalia which was a needle meaning he had already done the deed...this is not his firs offense for this horrible drug...I came across this book and purchased two as I am reading one now and will send the other to my son who is in jail as I had said...I have been through hell and back with my son and could write a book on that alone...but to read a book for a herion addict in it's self helps me out...I hope and pray that Herb can make this new life work for him and his family...I lost a 23 year old beautiful cousin to his horridness drug...so beautiful and full of life only to be taken away from us...but still..I have a son who continues to use...fortunately...he is clean and sober but he is in jail...God be with him...this book...I will be for ever grateful for as it helps me to understand more of my son...I can relate to him so much through this book...I've heard the stories and I've heard the lies...all I aslk for is to have my blond haired blue eyed boy back in our lives...the one before his "best friend" came into his life...my son is 40 years old now...I will pray for Herb and his family as I continue to pray for my son and our family... God be with all of us!!!! Thank you Herb for your share...you have no idea how you are helping me to understand my son...I wish you the best in life!

Raw and sometimes painful to read
A personal account of one young man’s journey through hell holding on to his addiction until it brought him to his knees. Even though I knew he survived his turmoil, as I was reading I something forgot and expected him to lose the battle! He has such a gift to offer others by recounting his story of his climb out of the valley to reach the peacefulness of sobriety and a clean living He knows that the way to maintain the life he has found is to guide others to recovery. If he can make it, anyone can!

Addiction as told from experience
This book, I think, is the best I've read or heard about addiction. It is written by someone who was broken and homeless, on the brink of suicide. It gives hope when you think there is none. Recovery is possible.

A Genuine & Authentic Account
As the child of 2 heavily addicted parents, I have spent much of my adult life trying to answer questions about the disease that is addiction. Why? How? What could possibly have caused these people to abandon their lives, their families, their responsibilities, in favor of life on the streets, in prison, & eventually life lost?Is this book the most grammatically sound, correctly punctuated piece of literature? No, but it’s incredibly powerful; an honest & raw account of the nightmare that is life as an addict, & a documentary of hope that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, if you choose to accept it.This story put a lot of things into perspective for me.
