Decent sheath for GI issue machete but too tight for heavy duty version
Either the military changed spec, or one of my sheaths is not fully up to spec. I have two of these, one I got several years ago. This one has a narrower slot where the blade goes, making it a much tighter fit on my machete. It is acceptable on my standard issue machete, but I also have an Ontario 8294, which is the heavy-duty version, with a blade a few inches longer, and just a hair thicker. I thought I'd use this machete to cover the blade (for safety reasons) and I could barely get it in and out, so I used my older sheath for my new machete, and this one on my original GI issue one. The fit is still plenty tight, but acceptable. At least it won't come loose or fall out. Includes clips to attach to a GI belt, and a sharpener that I suppose is better than nothing, but not by a lot. I suppose if you were in a jungle and had no other way to sharpen your machete, it is what you'd use, but it does not put a very fine edge on the blade. A fine-cutting metal file is almost as fast, and puts a much finer edge on the blade.

Great Sheath Highly recommend it.
Been carrying my Ontario 18inch machete around in a flimsy canvas sheath it came in but finally decided to go hard shell after watching a review Dave Cantabury did on Youtube about some customizations he made to his to make it more useful as a grab and go option. Anyway, this thing is a great sheath. I don't necessarily like the sharpener that's built in though. It has a tendency to not line up with the blade all the time so when you scrape the blade on the flat metal sides it kinda has the opposite of the intended affect. Instead of sharpening it tends to dull the blade.Fortunately, the "sharpener" can be swiveled out of the way which is what I've done and I'll use a Lansky Lawn and Garden Multi Purpose Sharpener (the long narrow one). It'll be pretty easy to throw on a couple of ranger bands and use that to store the sharpener with this machete so that its always with me in my day pack.I love my machete... it was a gift and has been through hell and back. I'm glad to have a new hard plastic case for it now too to make it that much more useful.

Exactly what I need!!!
This is exactly what I needed, the nylon sheath that came with it sucks azz the saw blades always get caught when I go to draw it out...its just a 18" machete I got from Harbor Freight!!I saw a few revs where ppl were bitching about the military style clip...just cut it off and use industrial strength velcro...problem solved!!

Too bad I cannot give it a "0".
This sheath is advertised as being specifically designed for US army machete, which is 3mm thick. I own several machetes, but even the thinnest one cannot fit into this thing. It is so narrow that it stripped all the protective coating from my brand new machete, the first time I tried to use it. I think not only this vendor owes me my money back, but should pay for a new machete as well.

outstanding machete sheath
The sheath came a day after the window of estimated delivery but I can accept that because it arrived exactly in the nick of time. I was about to leave on a camping trip and I was taking my machete in a old canvas sheath :( But as I was walking out my door with all my pack and stuff, the mail man arrived with my plastic machete sheath. Rothco manufactured it and they do a fairly good job with their stuff and I am happy with this sheath and its performance. I just only had one night to use it I have not had any time to do any modifications with it, I mean the Ranger bands. To make a fair review the sheath is great but I don't have any use for the belt clip that is for a certain type of army belt to be hooked onto, not a regular belt loop. But I plan on learning more of Dave Cantabury's modifications I saw a way he made a rope sling for his machete to carry it that way. Or I just will tie it off to my pack.

Adequate
I needed a sheath for my 18" machete and based on reviews this unit seemed to be a good choice. The sheath is hard plastic with drainage holes situated along its entire length. The fit of my machete is good thickness wise with some play width wise, but this only pertains to my machete model to this sheath. There is a pivoting unit that when deployed, rubs against the machete edge. In my case it does not conform and only serves to damage my edge.Be aware that this is a GI type only, so for belt carry there is the standard GI web belt hooks mounted on a pivoting base. How durable this pivot point is remains to be seen. There is no provision for belt mounting other than the web belt hooks. The metal material appears cast and not quite up to milspec standards.

Machete sheath
The sheath is fine. The sheath if made of flexible plastic and I have not had mine long enough speak to longevity but I guess you get what you pay for and this didn't cost a lot so I likely should not expect a lot. The sheath works for now and who knows maybe it will out last me. I didn't fine a lot of choices when I looked for a machete sheath and I thought this one was better than the cheap nylon sheaths.

- The produst is good, however
- The produst is good, however, unable to string an ordinary belt through it. The case has a sort of metal wire designed for a belt which must be narrower than normal.... probably about 1 inch wide.. I will do some research to determine what kind of belt can be used with this sheath . Not sure how good the sharpener is ... It is not built into the case... It is attached to the exyerior corner of the sheath. You have the optoion of using it or not. .
