Tribal Art

I frequently get to visit Papua New Guinea, and other parts of Oceania, and am blown away by the wood-carvings and other folk art of the region. I once brought a shield back from Watam, at the entrance to the Sepik - dressed it up in surfboard cover, and the airlines accepted it as one of my pieces of luggage.Anyway, I bought this book primarily as a guide to PNG art, but find myself delving into other sections. The pictures and descriptions are top notch. The indicated prices are unbelievable, although I guess I wouldn't know "museum quality" if it fell on my foot. Still, it makes me feel really happy about the knick-knacks I bring home.

This book need to be larger to thoroughly cover the subject. It was hard to tell just by seeing the cover.

The book is one of the best because of the beautiful clear images and descriptions. Also the estimated prices are included per item. It is a must for the artist or the layman who is interested in tribal art.

This book isn't what I thought it would be but it had a lot of information and beautiful renderings of the pieces.
