5th/6TH Generation Mexican/American Incredible & Awesome Book!!!!! Highly Recommend it!!!
I am 5th/6th generation Mexican/American from the State Of Texas !!! I am a descendant of Gregorio Esparza that fought and died at the Alamo. I in fact am a Retired "L.E.O." from this Great State Of Texas and worked with many Texas Rangers throughout my career, and I had heard about this book and being an avid reader I purchased this book and all I can say is "Wow" an Incredible account and Awesome Book for all to read!!! Kudos to Dr. Monica Munoz Martinez and her dedicated research and data she complied for this "Awesome" but "Sad and Tragic" Book. I can only imagine the road blocks she must of gone through to get this data knowing the system as I do!!! Respectfully; "Cobra Gotcha"

Texas Hidden History!
The history of violence in Texas against Mexican/Americans. The author brings to light a lot of the untold stories that you would never see in a Texas History book. At least anything I have ever seen growing up in Texas. I highly recommend this book. The author did a great job of researching an bringing these stories forward.

Important to remember
While historians are well aware of how violent the Texas Rangers were to Mexican Americans in the bad old days (and to Mexicans during the Mexican War), they will have to keep repeating that simple fact for years for people to understand this tragic past. Muñoz Martinez does a good job of telling the story, with a ton of documentation, but it does get somewhat repetitive. The choppy sentences don't help either. The end is particularly important as she deconstructs the whitewashed history presented in the Texas Rangers Museum in Waco, and then provides an account of a special exhibit on border violence presented in the state historical museum in Austin (40,000 people showed up). The book has a lot of useful information, but she could have told the same story in a more effective manner if it were 50-100 pages shorter.

Atrocities committed on ethnic mexicans of south texas
I was born in Kingvilles TX and never realized the cruel history. I've been researching my family history and ran into a dead now I know a possible reason why I can't hardly find anything on my family during the 1900's only marriage and birth certificates are all I can find

Unspoken Truths
Used this book as a source for a HIST course it was real informative. As a historian this book allowed me to hear the silence that is often left out pertaining to racial discrimination and American terrorism in Texas. During the Jim Crow Era not only were African Americans subjected to violence so where Mexican Americans and Mexican Nationals. This book brings you on a true life journey of the evils committed by the Texas Rangers. Side note, covert racism as the MLB in Texas is named after the unit that targeted Mexicans. (Alway be weary of how names, companies, etc. have racial undertones that we don't know of unless we do our own research)

Well written
Book is excellently written, using accessible vocabulary to create a riveting description of historical events integral to Texas fabric, but overlooked by the public education system in Texas.

Biased
Only shows one side. The Texas rangers were seen as heros for a reason.
