Fantastic albums
Well, I have a lot of later Emmylou albums, with Hard Bargain being (in my humble opinion) her best album of a fabulous set. These are early Emmylou and show just how good she was from the start. I don't consider anything is dated here; she sings incredibly well and has a great bunch of backing musicians and singers with herI have a couple of Gram Parsons album which feature EMmylou, but anything of his on these five albums are better than the versions he did. Add to that some excellent covers of song written by Lennon & McCartney and other more country-orientated writers show how intelligent she has been in picking others' song to sing. Add to the mix her own work and you see the full worth of her talent. These five are a brilliant set to add to a megastar collection - and here was me uncertain whether to buy them or not. It was a great decision to do so.

Great Collection, Lovely Voice.
Not a huge country fan, have always loved Emmylou's version of "Here, There and Everywhere", which was really the only song i knew by her for years as my dad had bought as the single back in the 70's. Bought Anthology a year or two ago to gain that track on cd. Enjoyed the whole set quite a bit.I came across this set, probably looking at Mark Knopfler albums, A lot of the tracks on the Anthology are included on all of these albums. The tracks I had before sound much better in context of original albums. I have also discovered quite a few tracks that should have been included in the Anthology compilation, like "Poncho and Lefty" and "Even Cowgirls get The Blues".The best two albums for me in this collection are "Luxury Liner" and "Quarter Moon in a Ten Cent Town", Great Albums.I think some of the original recordings might be showing signs of age as there seems to be a bit of I can only describe as a bit of a rattle on certain notes Emmylou is singing. Might be my headphones though.Don't regret this purchase at all, bought the "original album series Vol. 2" on the strength of this, which is ok, but I prefer this set.

Absolutely Outstanding.
Back in the seventies,i all but gave up on country music. To my ears Nashville was churning out mainly pop sounds under the country banner. Two people rescued the music for me Ricky Skaggs, and Emmylou Harris. To be able to aquire the first five albums the lady recorded, for a very modest outlay, was something i jumped at.These albums represent Emmylou at her very best. All five albums were certified gold.ELITE HOTEL spent eight weeks at no.1 in the album charts.BLUE KENTUCKY GIRL stayed on the charts for 102 weeks. The voice as pure as it ever would be,coupled with many excellent song choices are evident throughout. Not only do you get all the early hits, but many lesser known masterpieces such as"Queen of the Silver Dollar","Wheels","Sin City","Satans Jewel Crown","Beneath Still Waters",and "Leaving Louisiana".These versions have never been bettered, and she clearly shows what respect, and integrity she has for country music. The dissapointing aspect is the very flimsy packaging. You will also need brilliant eyesight to read the musicians named on each track. Why a major reissue like this ,could not have been better presented by the record company is beyond me.It is for the music this set gets it five stars.Absolutely outstanding.

5 EmmyLou albums for the price of 1
I bought EmmyLou Harris albums right from the beginning in the 70s and continued for one after another through the 80s. Sadly, years ago I had to sell everything I had to stay afloat in the rising credit and bank crisis. Imagine my joy when I just found they had reissued her albums, 5 at a time, for the price of one album. Once again, my home rings with the sound of her beautiful Country voice and her flawless delivery. The inflections in her voice as she lingers over some phrases piles meaning upon meaning into the songs. She is my Queen of the Silver Dollar, my San Anton Rose, and my Rose of Cimerron. Ignore complaints of flimsy packaging, I mean come on, 5 classic albums for the price of one? That's 5 stars from me for both Volume 1 and Volume 2.

Got them all on vinyl but record player broken nowWhat a great artist Emmylou was and still is and the musicians who played with her were the best you could find like Albert Lee and Rodney CrowellI have played them over and over since I got themWho cares about the packaging I can read all that on the vinyl and Emmylou's life is well documented and I have read it allThat stuff done in Enactron was way ahead of its time. She never got the recognition she deserved in mainstream but who cares now, there are the memories of this stuff. It was neither country or pop in my view it was something unique on its own.

Pure Brilliance
Fantastic collection of five of her albums, a wide range of her songs and instrumentals that display Emmylou's talent. Great value.
