Bought this to fit on a Festool 1400/2 guide rail
I bought this for my Festool 1400/2 guide rail, I was initially skeptical about not choosing the genuine Festool version. However, at a third of the price, it was worth a try, and there’s enough to cover two 1400mm guide rails too. After removing the old splinter guard, I cleaned the rail with a Big Wipe, but the residue prevented proper adhesion. I then used rubbing alcohol on a microfiber cloth to remove the residue, and it then adhered perfectly. When trimming it down with the track saw, I noticed a difference from the Festool version. Instead of cutting off a strip, this one turned into crumbs which made a rite mess despite being attached to the extractor.First use was on 6mm MDF, it was easier to line up and delivered results that, in my opinion, were better than the genuine Festool version. It’s also noticeably sturdier.

Not 3 metres
Bought to replace splinter guard on 2 x 1.5m Makita guide rail / tracks.Tracks were connected together and new splinter guard applied (old adhesive removed with stanley blade) . Quick check before fitting and length seemed to be OK, however upon fitting and despite starting dead size (no overlap) found it was approximately 25mm too short. Laid in place to avoid stretching - perhaps stretching is required?Typically with rails this long 2 passes are needed where the track is split and joined together again to pick up the untrimmed start/end of each track. This means that the gap is in the centre adjacent to the track joint.

A good replacement
Good quality and a good replacement. The only thing that would be useful is an extra 100mm of extra the rubber splinter guard to allow for short cuts as it does come to the exact measurement for the 1.5M rails.I used a hair dryer to add extra heat, once the replacement splinter guard had been added. this just helped with the adhesion of the splinter guide to the rail.Well recommended.

Brilliant, just clean before you apply!
There is nothing wrong with the adhesion of this product! As I'm sure a few of of us have, I caused a significant amount of damage to the guard strip that came with the saw, and baring in mind that's the reference point for a cut, it made cutting square a guessing game. Finally located a replacement that I felt was a fair price for what it was, and noted some reviews complained about the strip not adhering properly. To those I would ask, did you properly clean the track before affixing the new one?And I doubt some did! After removing the old I used a microfibre and mentholated spirits to thoroughly clean any old residual and used a second microfiber to ensure it was completely dry.Line up and apply the strip and then using a thin strip of ply (or what ever wood you have) place over the strip and clamp up and down the track and leave for half an hour. The strip is permanently attached to my saw. There are no gaps for the dust to get underneath (even the joy of MDF dust) and once I did a 'dry' cut with the saw, I was left with a perfectly trimmed guard edge and back to square cuts.

Seems to do the job
Based on some reviews I was worried about the length and it sticking properly. Well I got 3.01 metres, so length not a problem, and I cleaned the track after removing the old rubber then applied the new one and clamped a piece of wood to it overnight. Seems to be working fine!

Perfect splinter guard works better than the festool one.
I bought this to replace the splinter guard on my festool. I preferred it to the festool one as it’s more of a black rubber then translucent plastic and you can see it much more clearly when aligning it up with your cut marks. It’s also a lot cheaper than the festool. Will buy again with no hesitation.
