50 Paintings You Should Know [Lowis, Kristina, Pickeral, Tamsin] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. 50 Paintings You Should Know Review: Great book! - Very informative and has beautiful paintings with excellent quality imaging. Review: Very nice painting guide for tourists - This is such an amazing book. I first saw it in NY at a museum , the price there was so high, so I took a note of it's name and searched for it at desertcart. It's a great way to prepare yourself to a trip and museum visits. Each picture is described in details, so you can get the original idea of each painting. I reccommend this for your personal library!

Good primer
Delivered on time and in good condition. Book is as described for a very reasonable price. Some of the choices were a bit unusual for my taste, but that's a personal comment and not a reflection on the quality of the book. I thought the descriptions were focused and acted as a solid intro to the paintings. You can always research the painters or the particular piece in more detail if you want.

Great birthday present
Bought this book for my dad who has seen in person most of this art. He told me it was exciting to look through and exclaim, "I've seen that!" over and over.

A Nice Book But Writing Style is a Bit Disappointing
I like the concept of this book, and it's nicely laid out, however I find the writing style a bit pretentious and heavy-handed. I think the book would have benefited from less flowery descriptors of the artists and their works, and more (clearly-stated) detail around the artists' lives and inspirations.

This series of 50 Artists/Paintings books are simply excellent. Amazing value, super illustrated and written with great information. They strike a perfect balance for readers with little, middle, or great knowledge of art. I highly recommend them for all ages and levels.

I know very little about art. When I first looked at this book, I didn't like many of the pictures which we should know. But I don't think that deciding which pictures to have at home is the purpose of this book. It's purpose, I think, is to educate about paintings. Some of the pictures included are clearly masterpieces. I was surprised to see that Renoir, Seurat and Reubens were absent. The book includes three paintings each by Giotto, Leonardo, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Turner, Monet, van Gogh, Cézanne and Dalí. But I was surprised to see three each also for Mantegna, Botticelli, Bosch, Grünewald, Bruegel, Friedrich, Klimt, Malevich and O'Keeffe. I didn't even know three paintings by each of these painters. Clearly I need to read more of this book to hopefully learn why some lesser-known painters have been granted equal space to the famous ones. This book contains about 5 paintings by 3 painters born before 1399, 11 paintings by 17 painters born between 1400 and 1499, 9 paintings by 5 born between 1500 and 1599, 6 paintings by 2 born between 1600 and 1699, 12 by 8 born between 1700 and 1799, 29 by 16 born between 1800 and 1899, and 7 by 5 born between 1900 and 1999. So the period 1400 - 1499 was quite important to the author, but 1800 - 1899 was of the greatest importance.
