The Listener's Bible: Listener's Bible, New International Version MP3 CD – MP3 Audio, November 5, 2012

The reader has not only the voice for this, but the flair. He's not merely reading the words which would be mechanical. It's obvious he's reading the story, it's obvious he's acquainted with it otherwise he couldn't bring out the story-telling result. The Bible is not a script, and in many areas it's not always a story as such, it's poetry, it's lineage, it's instructive. So we have a vocal artist that adds to the value of this reading (as compared to other readers I have heard, even Charlton Heston as one example) by the use of his voice.This is a DVD disk, but not for playings sake, for space's sake. There is no video content! Odds are, as is, this disk will not be playable in your car because what's on this disk are all the books in the Bible as MP3 files, so this is a "data" DVD disk. With minimal skills and a DVD burner you can take the MP3's on this disk and burn them to CD's that are playable on CD platers in up to 70-80 minute segments (the maximum running time for a CD disk. For that reason you would not expect book like Job to be burned onto just one CD, and burning all these MP3's to CD's would be many many CD's. I'd save these MP3's to an MP3 player and listen to it through headphones, or plug an FM transmitter (under $10) into your MP3 player and now it plays in your car without any CDs or their time limitations at all.

I love this product mainly because I can now listen to the bible while I'm driving in very hectic traffic and my commute is much more bearable.Now for the useful part of this review: The NIV version is easy to follow and Max McLean's delivery on the reading is clear, warm and articulate. Tone, inflection and [oral] animation is important for audio books of this magnitude because one could lose an audience if the narrator is flat or dull in his/her delivery. I had the KJV bible on CD and the narration was robotic and rushed which made it difficult for me to follow/understand the verses and I eventually stopped listening to it. So I love that Mr. McLean's delivery is so good (almost like a parent reading a child a bedtime story). I also like the subtle background music and the quality of the CD's and case is very good too. The CD's are well ordered as far as the number of books that are grouped together on each CD. In some instances, I am able to listen to a nice range of books on one disc which is very convenient. I initially thought the product was a bit pricey but once I received it (65 discs and a DVD) I realized that it was a good investment!

Great NIV audio by the best possible narrator anyone could ask for. I couldn't figure out why this particular audio Bible was so much better than any I've owned before - such as Alexander Scourby's great reading - and then I learned that Max McLean is actually a Christian. This is why his gorgeous British baritone resounds with such authority, since he actually believes in what he is reading. I cannot recommend this product higher! The only downside - and it's a minor one - is that the producers felt it necessary to add a drone-like keyboard soundtrack to it. It's annoying to say the least, but I found that if you reduce the bass and increase the treble, you can pretty much get rid of it. I only wish the producers gave us Max's voice only, such as his superlative "Valley of Vision" series (which I also heartily recommend)!

The "so far" is because I've only gotten through exodus. So far it's great the narrator's voice isn't overwhelming, it's not over dramatic, or monotonous. The background music is very light almost unnoticeable. It comes with an mp3 disk that I downloaded on my phone (it takes about 4 gigs of memory or so) with my bible in a year app. This has made receiving the word very simple. I like very much.

Great way to start the day on the drive to work. Max McLean does a nice job bringing the words to life. I have the admit the Old Testament can be dry and even boring in places and I like that I can switch to listening to the New Testament when feeling the need for hearing the inspiring words of Christ. Glad that I spent the money on the set. They are well worth the price.

The NIV LIstener's Bible was just what I expected. I read the Bible in the evening before I go to bed and have listened to the Listener's Bible afterward. .. sometimes listen to the same passages I have just read. It sometimes helps me remember what I've read and sometimes listening just gives a new perspective. It's also relaxing. If I listen when I'm tired or stressed, I soon relax. I have enjoyed listening.

This narrator voice as he reads and I listen makes me feel like I'm back in Biblical times when Jesus was on Earth and preaching to the people. Ive used the CD' s on my little CD player while I'm on the treadmill,walking,when I'm at work on my lunch breaks,cleaning house,or cooking in the kitchen. Thanks for making this available Amazon,I love it!

This is an excellent recording of the Bible. His tone of voice, his pacing and diction is really engaging. You know he has done a great job when you are in Leviticus and want to keep listening :o). Seriously though, this is the third audio Bible I have listened to and it is the best. A real privilege to connect with Christ on road trips!

Great price, love this version and it's nice that I don't have to stream anymore. Uploaded it on my phone and have it with me everywhere I go.

I was a little afraid to order it. It seemed too reasonably priced. Got it. Narrated beautifully without so much as to be distracting. Easy to listen to and follow along with in your bible.
