Backpacking Tips for This Stove
First the facts. This 2 pot set includes a larger pot with a heat exchanger and a smaller pot best thought of as a cup. The larger unit has accurate markings on the side that are in ounces and ml and top out at 800 ml one inch from the top of the pot. This means that for all practical purposes, this pot will heat 3.5 cups max. The small lip is helpful for metering very small dribbles. The pots are sturdy and do not have non-stick coatings (hooray). I point out that the heat exchanger does, in fact reduce the cooking time (depending on the stove I used, up to 25%). However, the heat exchanger rules out wood fires for me because the soot collects on all the fins and makes the pot impossible to clean well on the trail. Even a poorly tuned alcohol stove left more residue than I wanted. You will be able to fit a larger fuel canister in it and a small burner. Depending on how much you want to put in the cup and puzzle together, I got a variety of trail kitchen items in. The units do not hooks together in any way, though, so you will need to use the bag it comes in to keep the set together. The pots are designed for a small trail stove and works well for this purpose. The coated handles are helpful and make it easy to handle a hot pot if you are careful, but be prepared for the fact that you will eventually scorch them which will reduce their cosmetic value a bit. These get 5 stars from me for value, utility, and design. I don't backpack a great deal, but when I do, I want perfect gear and this is now a part of my pack, replacing my jetboil kit because of the sturdier handles, integrated cup, and stove flexibility.

"A-" light-weight, fast water boiler pot + cup, not great for cooking real food.
This set is similar to the Optimus Terra Weekend cook set, except it has a heat exchanger on the bottom of the main pot. I think its a great feature to make the cookset more efficient, which translates into less gas used per boil, which means more liters of water you can boil per fuel can. The downside is you pay a weight penalty (slight). I'm not faulting the set for that, I think heat exchangers are a great innovation and I think we'll continue to see more of them. Paired with the Optimus Crux stove, (and the newly released clip-on windscreen), this offering from Optimus is an integrated system that directly competes with the MSR Reactor system, the Jetboil PCS systems (Zip, Flash, Sol), and the Primus ETA integrated cook system. The 0.95L size is really ideal for boiling ~16oz (0.5L) of water. You shouldn't plan to fill it up to 900ml (its less efficient trying to heat that much water at a time anyway, and when it does boil it will boil over), which really makes this a solo cook system. There's lot of niceties that make this a great buy : the silicone guards on the handles, the low price, the graduated volume indicators, the attempt at a pour spout (it doesn't work very well at all). The fact that the lid for the pot doubles as a cup (its pretty useless as a fry pan). But there are a number of things that I wish Optimus would improve on.The material is thin aluminum with an aluminum oxide "hard anodized" coating. The thinness keeps the weight down, but it also makes it feel cheap. The top of the cup/fry pan is stamped with the OPTIMUS logo, and you can see it faintly on underside of the cup. Obviously you can read the water volume stamps on the outside and inside of the pot. The material is so thin that it flexes, and when it does you can hear the brittle AlO2 layer crackling. I'm not faulting Optimus specifically for the thinness of the aluminum, but the oxide seems a little too thin, especially in my cup/fry pan. I can see some areas look like they weren't fully covered. I bought my set in 2011, so maybe they're better today, but I hope Optimus is paying attention to the quality. (minus a half star)Although this cook set has a wide-mouth pot, this system is really for boiling water. I think the wide mouth makes it nice for reaching your hand in if you plan to wash it, but don't be deceived: it doesn't cook food that well. That is probably the fault of the high-heat butane fuel stoves (~10,000BTU @ max) and the super thin aluminum that develops hot spots and can't disperse the heat fast enough for even heating. The cover for the pot is really just a cup so that after you boil 16oz (0.5L) of water, you can pour half of it into the cup for a warm drink (coffee, tea, chocolate, cider) and then use the pot for the meal. I wouldn't suggest trying to make any food in the pot cover / cup, even though they call it a "frying pan". Optimus even subliminally hints at this by making the lid deep (like a cup) instead of shallow (like a pan). The hard anodized layer is NOT non-stick, it simply seals the aluminum and makes it a little easier to clean up if food get baked on. To put it another way, don't try cooking eggs in it, or frying chicken or bacon or fish in it, don't even try braising meat or heating up beans in the "cup". To simplify - every meal you make should be 80% water with this cook set.One feature that is sorely lacking is a thermal insulator on the pot. Aluminum is one of the best thermal conductors in lightweight backpacking cookware, better than titanium. This means that heat from the burner is readily transferred to the pot and the water inside. It also means that heat from the pot is readily lost to the surrounding air (especially with those heat fins). Jetboil has a neoprene sleeve over their flux ring pots, and Primus also puts one one their ETA integrated system. MSR does not use or include a thermal insulator on their Reactor systems, and neither does Optimus, but Optimus does sell a large neoprene [H]EAT pouch that you can put your mountain house meal bag in, or which supposedly fits the pot. I'd rather just see a thermal blanket wrapping around the pot. It would speed boil times, and reduce fuel consumption. I consider it a useful innovation that Optimus missed out on including. (minus a half star).

Great for extended backpacking
What sets this pot apart from the rest is the "HE" designator which stands for Heat Exchanger. Let me tell you that this thing is a money saver and will make you carry less fuel then you would have to otherwise. I tested it with the following stoves - Optimus Crux, Primus Express and Snow Peak Litemax and was consistently was able to boil 2 cups of tap water in 1 minute and 45 seconds. All the while burning 6-8 gramms of fuel depending on the stove( not surpisingly, Optimus Crux works the best with this pot). What it means is that you can have 3 Mountain House meals a day, for 10 days, with one 220g gas canister. Not too bad,ha?

So glad I picked this one
So glad I picked this one. I did a lot of research and one I noticed the heat exchanger on the bottom and saw other reviews on them I knew what ever pot I got had to have that. I havent totally field tested it yet but I've used it about 10 different times around the house and local day hikes and it boils water everytime in 2 mins and under. The heat exchanger cuts time in half. So this thing will boil as fast if not faster than the jet boil. I use this with the Patuoxun Mini Backpacking BBQ Camping Stove which all and all cost me $40! I love this thing and find myself using it to boil water around the house since its so fast.

Good but a long way from being perfect.
The only reason I don't rate this 3 stars or less is because its about the best pot (forget the word set) you can get for the money, even so it seems somewhat overpriced. The large pot is good for solo use and will do a brew for 2, the 0.95lt size is brim full so realistically you can only boil a max of 800ml in it without it boiling over. The small pot is a handy must have lid but is useless as a pot, its also poorly made and no better quality than many much cheaper similar small pots I've had with other sets.Where this set scores is that its the right size to store many stove options, I use it with a Svea 123R which fits nicely inside the 2 pots when packed and many people will use it with some form of gas cartridge stove which will also store inside. The Heat Exchanger (He) on the main pot seems to work well and reduces boiling times and the graduations stamped into the side help you boil only the amount of water you actually need thereby saving a bit more fuel. The pouring lip on the main pot is to my mind just a cosmetic feature as it pours just as well from the opposite side, because I'm right handed the lip is in fact on the wrong side of the pot anyway. If I was to design an ideal set I'd keep the main pot much as it is but increase the diameter and depth of the small pot so it fitted over the top of the main pot when packed away, that would still allow the 123R to pack inside but also pack slightly smaller with some other stoves and provide a usefully sized second pot/lid.Good points.Good size for solo useHeat ExhangerGraduations on main potSilicon rubber on handles worksSmall pack size when stove can be stored inside.LightweightRobustNegative points (in some situations)Small pot is next to useless except as a lidDifficult to clean (depth of narrow main pot) - not ideal pot for heating up tinned/canned food like beans.

Amazing cookset!
I've been using this cookset for 6 months or so. loving it more and more every time i use it!VERY well buildt, it would take some serious impact to dammage this set, a fall is no where near enough. gas stores away perfect in it.i don't use it on fire, only on my primus classic gas stove, i guess i'm just abit of a girl when it comes to the terre set, i only do it because i like the set so much.Highly recommended!(One little tip thoe, if you use the pan as a cup. Give it a good while to cool. as soon as it's ready to drink... DRINK! it cools fast with such a large surface area. but yet agein.. super easy to rewarm.. )

Best ever
I have no idea why anyone would buy any other set.If you are a solo backpacker, cyclist etc, this is the set for you.Supposed frying pan is good for one egg maybe, but does make a good cup.Just come back from cycling trip to Normandy. Functional, light and tough.Top notch.

Excellent
The fry pan is a bit redundant but the pan heats very quickly and has the benifit of having a pour spout and measuring lines - which are a real essential that is all too often left off other pans. Heat exchange base seems to work really well. Boils water in around 3 mins - depending on the elements - over my gas stove. Very happy.

Excellent Kit!
I really like how compact and light this kit is and yet it is plenty large enough for 1 person to cook with. It worked very well on my DPower stove. The Heat Exchanger on the pot seems to make more efficient use of your fuel by spreading out the heat evenly. I was able to boil 16oz of water in under 2 minutes. The Optimus 220g fuel canister fits perfectly into the pot and allows for a little bit of room on top for extra cooking items or the DPower stove if you position it correctly. The 450g canister is a few mm too tall to fit nicely into this kit. Kit comes with a mesh bag to hold it all together.

Gutes Kochset

Worked great. Water and contents heat and boil very quickly. Stores easily and cleans easily. Large pot holds butane canister and small camp stove.Only thing I would like to see is if they could make the top pot "lock" into the bigger bottom pot when in storage.I would recommend product.

What I liked was the ring on the bottom it helped with ...
I took this set camping for a week and used it every day with a little camp stove burner. What I liked was the ring on the bottom it helped with wind and stopping the flame from wicking up the sides this way better than other pot on these little burners as it kind of protects your hands when adjusting the flame or pot or stirring it. The biggest problem is that this is impossible to clean. Unless you just boil water, everything else leaves a residue that won't fully come off. I burned milk and water making instant potatoes and it took me 20 minutes just to remove the worse marks from inside and it just wouldn't come clean. I only had it for 3 days and it looked like I owned and used it for 3 years. If I paid 30+ dollars for a normal cooking pot that wouldn't come clean, it would be unacceptable, that is kind of how I feel here.

Excellent kit! Perfect for the lone hungry trekker!
Bought this for my partners days out walking, as its perfect for boiling water and making noodles, soup etc, perfect size for a males appetite, wouldnt say this was big enough for 2 people unless your just snacking or making tea? Really happy with it, the lid passes as a nice big cup if needed, it fitted a CV470 campingaz cannister inside with room for a spork so a smaller cannister should allow room for the cooker too.The description mentions a neoprene "stuff bag" this item only comes with the larger 1.65 L pot from optimus, not the 0.95 L one.If anyone knows whether one can be bought for this size do share!!Apart from that, really happy with it :)

Beautiful set. Can cook a store bought side dish with ease and packs away beautifully. Large enough to store my two stoves and a backup lighter inside. Fuel cans apparently fit but I always keep mine separate. No issues here and a lot of travels under its belt!
