CNZ Aquarium Filter Media Kits Activated Carbon/Bio Ball/Ceramic Ring, 8" L

When I received this I was not sure whether it was going to be like, but the reviews were generally good. It wasn't dusty really, a quick rinse for a few minutes under cold water, and it came clear. The pellets and bag were in great condition (except the bag had a little hole in it) and this is likely, the best deal going on Amazon, for this amount/weight of carbon. Nobody can expect carbon to be dust free, but others have said in other ads, that their carbon from other sellers were very dusty even after lengthy rinses and never came clean. This certainly was not the case here, it was clean in no time under 5 minutes rinsing, I put it out on some plastic to dry out and placed it all in my carbon scrubber/air filter. Very easy stuff to deal with and I would definitely buy again.Update, carbon is working great in my carbon scrubber, seems to last about a year and I am still buying it. Best deal on Amazon for this amount and quality, bar none.

This product is pelleted active charcoal in black non-biodegradable zipped bag. Pellet diameter is about 5 mm. There will be dusting as expected. So, you need to cleanse/wash the charcoal before using it in a fish tank's system. When measured, the total dissolved solids in the water used for initial cleansing the charcoal went up from 22 to 76 mg/L. The pH rose a couple of tenth. That means that there are mineral residues in the charcoal that you might not expect. I found residues diffusing out even after 3 days of soaking and washing in flow of water. After about a week, I found only minimal leaching which I thought ignorable.

I did not receive the quantity mentioned in the add, there was only 2 pounds instead of the 5 pounds mentioned in the advertised product, so I would expect to pay less at least half the price since I received less than half of the product.

wow speechless for the price it is amazing, quality and amount you get. I can't find a better deal at any LFS ( Local Fish Store for those not in the hobby) or major pet retailer near me. This is a great product I'm so impressed! I've been in the hobby for many years now and I can honestly tell any experienced and any noobies that this is a product worth every penny.

You get a lot of product, and they come in zipper bags, so you can unzip a bag and take some of the media out if you want. I would recommend keeping the charcoal media in the bag because once you dump it out, there are so many pieces, same with the ceramic rings. I tried to mix up a concoction of media in our waterfall gravity filter so that when the water passes over it, it goes over the charcal and ceramic rings. The water seemed to be much clearer as opposed to when the waterfall filter only had lava rocks in it. I actually leave a bag of the black bio balls just floating around my pond because it is supposed to produce and hold onto beneficial bacteria, which can take months to build up. I only occasionally rinse any green algae goo that gets on the bag - you should do this using water from the pond as using new, clean water will wash off all the beneficial bacteria. Once again don't know if this helps but hopefully it does.
