A PERSONAL TOUR DE FORCE: FINALLY & ULTIMATELY 'DE MYSTIFYING' CANCER'S MALEVOLENCE!
I initially hesitated to write a review and NOT because this 'game-changer' of- if I may say so- THE ultimate Do It Yourself Cancer -Compendium was not 'worthy'! Quite the opposite in fact! No, it was because all the other wonderfully uplifting and heart warming reviews on Amazon echoed MY sentiments absolutely! I was diagnosed with Stage 3c ('at least', as my Oncologist poetically put it!...), Ovarian/Peritoneal Cancer in July 2016; and I had my 1st Chemo'; whilst in hospital being 'drained' of malignant ascites the day before my birthday!!! after the unspeakable mind-numbing disbelief I was quickly 'swallowed up' in the Cancer virtual 'reality' world with rounds of Clinic and hospital appointments. I was given 6 IV treatments of 3 weekly Carboplatin/Paclitaxel, Chemotherapy . At the end of my 4 months Chemotherapy I 'enjoyed' (I was on a 'high', having 'escaped' all the evil 'doings' that those drugs could have dumped on my compromised system) a brief respite before I had a complete Hysterectomy in January 2017, with an appendectomy thrown in for free! I recovered quickly and without complications/serious side effects. Consequently I felt 'reborn' when 'It' was ALL OVER and I could just get on with my life; after all I (naively!) reasoned had I not kicked Breast Cancer's (stage 2B oestrogen receptive with 6 FEC Chemotherapy treatments followed by 4 weeks of Radiotherapy a subsequent Mastectomy?) ass in 2004 without a backward glance? Silly silly me! The only thing I may say here is that grief, poor sleep patterns, CHOCOLATE, low thyroid and general dissatisfaction with one's life did NO favours for yours truly.....enter my next and brand 'new' Cancer 12 years on! My carefree 'Cancer-free' existence screeched to an unexpected and ungracious halt: at the beginning of this year, I had my recurrence 'It' re-visited me (actually the malevolent 'goblIns'/ aka stem-cells had NEVER left me had they?) and I was once more in the 'Ovarian-world' and starting the familiar rounds of Chemotherapy. I am still having Chemotherapy 8+ months on although I now have weekly 'taxol' having sustained 2 allergic reactions to Carboplatin. Enough of moi and enter the INDOMITABLE J McLELLAND and her, to quote Professor Thomas Seyfried, 'monumental accomplishment'.... If I had NOT stumbled across such a book-although I would call it a silent but dynamic 'friend' constantly cheering you on - I KNOW that my Palliative Cancer would have the last word sooner rather than later, because my particular treatment options are rather sparse on the ground.... THIS is the power of Jane's gift and offering of both herself and ALL the scientific, Oncological, data and scrupulously, meticulously backed up information that she brings to bear on all who take the opportunity to avail themselves of nothing less than a dazzling vista that demonstrates the palpable, exciting hope and ultimately Cancer-free progression that her 'OFF LABEL DRUGS COMBO'; in conjuction with the low GI diet and careful 'relevant' supplementation can/does achieve!!! For the first time the previously hard to assimilate intricacies and the living realities that are 'multi-pathways', are mercilessly sliced open with the cool precision of any consummate surgeon and revealed to us non medical persons! Blimey! We can now truly be pro active with our treatments and beyond because we now 'have the power'!!!! If we so choose of course. Since I started the Off Label Drugs Protocol at The Care Oncology Clinic, I have noticed 'changes' to my condition; without going into all the highly personal and 'delicate' details, I was having serious 'problems' in my pelvic region and in a relatively short period of time those symptoms have improved considerably! At first I thought it was just a 'coincidence' and that it was soley the 'taxol' that I was having but I am now convinced that the real improvement has been facilitated - aided and abetted by the 'taxol' - by the 3 off label drugs that I take: METFORMIN, DOXYCYCLINE, ATORVASTIN and 'VERMOX', alongside Jane's 'favourite' Berberine plus a few more others! Finally I urge all you who have any reason whatsoever at all to want to read such a 10 STAR BOOK, then please DO if only for one reason; nothing short than A LIFE; of light and hope exists for those of us who have felt 'reigned in grief' and powerless with our prognosis and the inevitable that surely awaited; more Chemotherapy until the body just 'gave up the ghost'....Jane explains ALL this and so much more in a captivating and compassionate narrative If 'Fortune favours the brave' , it unequivocably DID with THIS author !!!!

Essential Reading for Those with a Cancer Diagnosis, and their Oncologists!
Jane's story of remission from Stage IV cervical cancer is truly inspiring and engaging and will bring hope to anyone in the same situation. Jane's story is also very much more than a biography of a radical remission. It's a detailed and knowledgeable summary of the path she took with repurposed drugs, and how and why they worked to halt the cancer in its tracks. Jane delves deep into relevant research, and has devoted herself to working out the detail of how the metabolic approach she employed herself, can help with other types of cancer. This makes the book a unique offering which empowers people with any cancer diagnosis to follow suit. Cancer is multi-factorial and it's clear that it's a combination of things which enable some people ( like Jane) to overcome a ' terminal' diagnosis. There are no magic bullets or miracles. Jane's story illustates the sheer determination, will and dedication that underpins her ability to confound her prognosis, and the groundbreaking and remarkable contribution of repurposed drugs, which were at the time of Jane's diagnosis, on the very periphery of knowledge. She sought them out and she's a true pioneer, and now a powerful voice for this approach to become widely known, to develop further and to change the face of modern cancer treatment. I'm a cancer survivor, a retired RN, and a mentor qualified to help those with a cancer diagnosis who want to follow an integrative treatment plan...and I have no hesitation in recommending Jane's book to anyone in a 'spot of bother' ( as Jane endearingly describes her diagnosis) and suggesting that they consult the oncologists at the Care Oncology Clinic who research and prescribe these drugs in their practice.

Superb, innovative, backed by science - should transform cancer treatments!
The book is in two parts - the first half is Jane's personal story, the second half is a more general "how to find the best treatments for your particular cancer. Well worth reading the whole book. Probably several times, as it is packed with information, backed by a long list of scientific references. It explodes the myth that there's any silver bullet that can cure cancer. You can't just stop eating sugar, or just eat keto, or just go vegan. Jane demonstrates clearly that cancer cells can use a wide range of 'fuels', and if only one pathway is blocked, they rapidly find an alternative, so it's essential that all the major pathways are blocked to stop the rapidly dividing cancer cells, and most importantly, the cancer stem cells. Jane provides the tools for people to go away and find the best approach for their own cancer - a combination of nutrition, supplements, lifestyle, exercise, off-label drugs, and - perhaps - low dose chemo, amongst other things. All oncologists, GPs and their patients should read this, and put it into practise. I bought the kindle version first - great for quickly searching for key words, and no need to wait to start reading. I also bought the physical book, to quickly refer to the diagrams, and highlight key sections. There are also very useful facebook groups where patients are sharing information about protocols, dosages, supplements etc ie "How to Starve Cancer... Book Study Support Group", and "Jane McLelland Off Label Drugs for Cancer". Take your life in your hands - don't be a statistic - use this book as the starting point for your journey to wellness!

Good though have some reservations
Jane McLelland is obviously a very knowledgeable person when it comes to cancer. I like her Four Pillars of Starving Cancer concept via diet, exercise, supplements and off label drugs. Also, attacking the cancer from all angles - blocking glucose isn't enough, you need to consider glutamine and fatty acids too. However, her concepts can be quite hard to grasp, especially at first, for the average layperson. Also, delving into PubMed to determine what is the best approach for your particular cancer can be very challenging indeed and may be well beyond the capability of some people. On the whole though this is a well researched and well written book and well worth a look. One way it could have been made better would have been an index at the book to make it easier to return to sections that might later proove to be of interest. I then took a look at the Care Oncology Clinic website McLelland recommended and was disappointed to find it was located in Harley Steet, London, a very exclusive and expensive area. Obviously, someone is making a lot of money out of cancer patients if they can afford premises in Harley Street. I realised this was going to be well beyond my ability to pay as the treatments are not available via the NHS.

Everyone needs to read this book
I have just finished this and I’m about to start reading again more slowly. Having had my second run with cancer in 4 years I was hoping for something motivational and challenging with this book and I’m not disappointed. I finished chemo and radiotherapy 6 months ago- I suppose I am still in the shocked and anxious stage- anxious that I will be dealing with cancer again in the not too distant future. This book gave me a sense of engagement in the battle, the oomph I need to pick myself up and hit back- at cancer, at a system that failed me on occasion and that dictates what happens next rather than seeks to include my voice. There is a fair bit of science contained in the book and rather than be put off by it I went off and read the original articles and more. I’m fascinated that there are bog standard medications out there for other illnesses that can massively help in the war against cancer. I’m intrigued with the author’s determination to tackle cancer from as many angles as possible. I think that this is a book worth reading by everyone given that statistics now indicate that cancer will affect 1in 2 of us. Why wait for a diagnosis when there are so many areas we can tackle now from diet, fitness, stress management and understanding what cancer is and why it finds willing environments within us. Read the book. Pass the book on. Even if you don’t agree with everything find your role with cancer and fight back. This gave me hope when I felt like I had hit a brick wall, or rather I felt like the wall had toppled in on me. Just read the book!

This book takes the terror out of a cancer diagnosis
I have just purchased a fifth copy of this wonderful, wonderful book for friends who are affected by cancer. After my cancer diagnosis in 2018 I downloaded and read the Kindle version within 48 hrs - to say that it blew me away is an understatement. I have subsequently given a copy of the book to my surgeon (consultant) who very graciously and politely accepted it and assured me that she would read it. As I will be under her care for the next 5 years I will be able to check on this! I have given the other copies to family and to another friend who received a stage 4 cancer diagnosis a few years ago. I will also be sending a copy to my (former) oncologist in the not too distant future as I wasn’t able to give her a copy, as was my intention, whilst I was under her care. I cannot recommend this book highly enough - I have found it to be extremely reassuring since my cancer diagnosis. It is such an empowering book - Jane explains so very well how cancer operates and how to stop it in its tracks. This book makes a cancer diagnosis so much less terrifying as Jane has, very, very, cleverly, demystified it. Cancer looks a LOT less scary after reading this book! Anyone affected by cancer should read this book - it is fabulous, and so is the wonderful author, Jane. She is an absolute hero - a totally amazing, brave, altruistic human being. She truly is a survivor. It is just a terrible shame that she had to go through everything she went through to bring us this book. She is amazing.
