NGK= outstanding performance
I bought a NGK 6422 plug to replace a "TORCH" E7RTC plug in a "Southland" SWle0799 edger. I purchased this as new and ever since the FIRST day, the "starting" was erratic. Sometimes it would start after about 5 pulls, other times it wouldn't start after 50 pulls. When it did start, it ran well. At first I thought it was the carb being too lean when engine was cold. I cleaned the carb paying special attention to the "emulsion tube". Then I cleaned the spark plug, even though it was a new machine. Still no go. So, I decided get a new name brand plug. I chose NGK. Ngk plugs have NEVER given me any problems. I even ordered a replacement ignition coil just in case. After I replaced the plug, the machine started after 2 pulls, even though the edger had not been run for a month. I was TOTALLY blown back by the results with the NGK plug!!

Surface Gap Plug
Don't pay attention to the picture! These ARE surface gap plugs. So if that's what you're looking for, you got them! I was a little weary of ordering them because of the generic picture, but I took a chance, and it turned out they sent the right ones. As always Amazon had these in stock, and i got them on time. I put them in my 90HP Mercury outboard last night, and she fired right up, and ran smooth. What else can i say, they are spark plugs. This is the cheapest I have found for this model, they range from $6 and change up to $16 at dealers or online. I try and order everything through Amazon when i can, i know i will get reliable service, and quick delivery. As a side note, another compatible plug for these is Autolite Plugs, PN 2872. They are under $4 and you can also find them on Amazon. I ordered them, but they aren't coming directly from Amazon, they were drop shipped from a mom and pop shop, I'm interested to see if there is a differnce between the 2 as far as life expectancy and performance. Happy Shopping!

Best Plugs for Older Mercury Outboards, but EXPENSIVE!
Typically, the BUHW plugs sell for around $1 or $2 a piece, but for some reason, they've really gone up in price over the past year. Against my better judgement, I went ahead and bought these for nearly $5 a plug, but at least I have them now. They are good quality plugs and all arrived New, in their original boxes. Good purchase and highly recommended spark plug for older/vintage Mercury Outboards.
