Used it, didn’t die. The good ends there.
On the upside: it seems to filter water. Drank out of a creek, didn’t die.The “water bottle” is too low capacity to make a real difference; don’t expect to get more than a couple of sips out of it. Also, you have to pump it to drink out of it, which... sucks. Also make sure you don’t empty it, because this unit requires 2cm of water to be left inside at all times. Also, it screws on TIGHT to wide-mouth bottles (I’m using Nalgenes), and is difficult to thread, which is a problem because when you go to unscrew it, you’ll often unscrew the end of the filter FROM THE FILTER, not the bottle, and it’s a pain to get back off.Given the low capacity, it’s probably better to just get a smaller filter that doesn’t pretend to be a water bottle.Wouldn’t buy again.

Date on the filter is its manufacturing date not expiration date.
I read through the reviews one customer said that the filter had expired. I contacted the manufacturer and asked them if that was an expiration date. The response was that is a manufacturing date not an expiration date and the filter will retain its effectiveness regardless of the manufacturing date. Not to worry.

Slow filling, didn’t last.
Product started leaking around the seal on top causing it to lose the aI ir pressure it needed to work. Had to return it. Worked fine for 2 days then started leaking. Takes about 5 minutes to fill a single 32oz bottle. Flow rate was disappointing. Water just trickled out painfully slow.

Amazing.. A must have for camping
So I found out the hard way that the standard Katadyn backpacking filter only filters out dirt, and chlorine dioxide only works in warm temperatures. Using a popular filter and chemicals in 40-degree weather on the Appalachian trail is a great way to catch norovirus. Seriously, check out the CDC's website, chlorine dioxide does absolutely nothing in temperatures under 40 degrees Fahrenheit.Lifesaver is one of the only filters that removes dirt, viruses, and bacteria. The seals on the filter are pretty terrible, when I pressurize it water sprays out the side. Also, you have to read the instructions pretty carefully, you can't let the filter dry out after you start using it...It's large, it's heavy, it's temperamental, it leaks, the bottle is all around terribly designed, but if you don't want to waste cooking gas and time boiling water then this is hands down the best filter to bring on a camping trip in cold weather.

This filter is junk
This filter broke the first time I used it. It worked for about a day and a half and then the top just broke off. Customer service was difficult to work with, so I just ended up gluing the top back on. I am hoping this will still work.
