Enjoy healthier comfort food!
It can be tricky to eat healthier. One major problem is feeling deprived. This cookbook offers over 100 recipes including many favorite dishes. There are 10 quick and easy ways for handling diabetes better. They include: watching portion sizes, exercise reducing sodium intake, quitting smoking, moderate drinking, and low carbs. These tips are also good advice for those without diabetes. The following is a partial list of the recipes featured. For breakfast, enjoy pancakes, waffles, French toast, and even Cheesy Grits. There's also recipes for syrup, whipped crème, and applesauce. Small bites include: miniature lobster rolls, sliders, buffalo wings, pigs in a blanket, and Swedish meatballs. Snackers might like baked potato chips with French dip, Garlic Hummus, or Perfect Parmesan Popcorn. Salad lovers will find recipes for Cobb, Caesar, Spinach, or Fruit. Those craving a sandwich can try Monte Cristo, Tuna Sloppy Joe, or Shrimp Po' Boy. Soup fans will savor Cream of Tomato, Mushroom, Chicken Noodle, Hearty Beef Stew, or Turkey Chili with Cinnamon and Cocoa. Vegetable side dishes include: Sour Cream Mashed Potatoes, Green Bean Casserole, Succotash, and Glazed Carrots. Vegetable entree's include: Portobello Mushrooms, Vegetable Coconut Curry, and Southwest Stuffed Bell Peppers. Enjoy pasta dishes like Macaroni and Cheese, Linguine with Red Calm Sauce, and Tuna Noodle Casserole. There are also seafood and poultry dishes, like Roast Chicken and Almond-Roasted Salmon. Enjoy meat dishes like Beef Stroganoff, Slow Cooker Venison Roast, and IndonesianPork Tenderloin. Finally, savor desserts like Coconut Pie, Strawberry Shortcake, Sugar Cookies, and Dark Chocolate Sherbet. Each recipe features preparation and cooking times. Many can be made in less than 30 minutes. But some will take longer. The breakfast dishes would probably be best for weekends and holidays. A burrito is called a good breakfast on the run. Yet it'd require lots of napkins due to all the ingredients used. Pasta dishes will need extra time. A few require longer time for marinating and refrigeration. There's also a section on properly using a mandoline for cutting homemade chips. Most of the ingredients are easily accessible. Others have substitutes listed just in case. Not surprisingly, several recipes use artificial sweeteners. There is a conversion table at the end of the book. Greek yogurt and kosher salt are among the ingredients that appear regularly in these recipes. Some recipes call for using parchment paper. The digital version needs some work. How come the ingredients are in lighter print? This makes them harder to read. Switching to larger print helps. But the nutritional information is in 2 columns. This causes some problems. It's not entirely readable in larger print. Most items are measured in grams. But sodium is measured in milligrams. That makes the amount look higher. The recipes in this cookbook will help make eating healthier a whole lot easier. Feeling deprived is harder when still enjoying favorite dishes. Some will also make some new favorites. Here's to happy healthy eating!

Excellent for a caretaker of a diabetic
Being the son of a diabetic, I gained many new insights and tips on how to correctly manage blood sugar levels through diet plans after reading this book. Not being a fantastic cook, I always followed the standard procedures in cooking foods which would not spike my father’s blood sugar levels. Needless to say, the same repetitive meals began to make my father’s taste buds weary. I found the Diabetic Cookbook and found a simple to read manual full of not only recipes but tips on how and when certain foods should be eaten and what healthy and safe alternatives can be used to sweeten meals. That being said, I found the book to be an excellent choice for any novice chef looking to cook new and tasteful meals for loved ones and friends who may or may not be diabetic. The book is simply a must have as it provides diabetic conscious recipes for 150 different meals at an excellent price. Also, the book takes a strong medical approach for those new to caring for diabetics and goes into great detail about the specifics in measuring sugar intake.

Easy and Direct
The Diabetic Cookbook by Shasta dives deep by giving a straight-to-the-point overlay of healthy eating through twelve rich chapters of no less than ten recipes per chapter. This is a no-frills cookbook, but there is something for everyone. For instance, Perfect Parmesan Popcorn is the kind of simple recipe that often gets forgotten. From that I played with nutritional yeast, sage, and powdered garlic! Open-Faced Tuna Melt: Classic and delicious. Sweet-Potato Casserole: Nice. Now, what's also good about this book is that it's written in everyday language for the novice or average home cook. Not a lot of fancy-talk. Of course, having the nutritional breakdown and serving size rounds off The Diabetic Cookbook. In short, it's a straight-forward and enjoyable kitchen go-to.

As new.
I got a copy of this for my brother as he has a higher level than he should be as relates to diabetes. I didn't want o send him negative books about all the how what not to do and what awful things will happen and this one was very inexpensive as through a book company. However whilst trying to get it Amazon kept pushing Prime at me and whilst doing so it picked up that I was buying it before I could put my brother's name in. I closed the site and in case it had gone through immediately wrote an email and two other links to the company to give them my brother's name and so send there. It took them two days to respond and said it had now been sent so for that I was not pleased. I am uncertain about the book as my sister in law was looking at it and there were no photos on Amazon so don't know if there were recipes or colour photos so can't really say. I don't usually have any problems with buying books through other companies on the Amazon and when this one arrived at my house I just forwarded it or if in doubt just use Amazon.
