will this fit in a case with this clear protective case on?

Yes, but the plastic case makes the camera more difficult to use and is platic and breaks easily. Mine did. For the mini evo I bought a homemade (from a 3-D printer) lens cap on Etsy.

What is the length of the strap? Can it be worn cross body?

I don't know. Mine is for the Fuji 300 Instax Wide. It's larger but similar. The strap on that one is adjustable. Fine for anyone 5'4" to 6' 6" I'd say. Probably a broader range.

are the plastic hole attachments for the camera strap inserts sturdy? i fear that they'll snap or break

Don't worry, it's very sturdy. We tested many times, the plastic hole is enough to carry the weight of the instax mini evo camera.
