Can this product be used in conjunction with a collar bell?

I agree with the other replies. A bell can be hung from the inside collar, or sometimes people sew bells on the outside of the fabric collar cover. The Birdsbesafe® collar cover works very well without bells, too, as it's designed to use colors to alert birds to the cat's stalking nearby.

Can the cat wear just the colorful fabric or does a collar need to be worn under it?

Hello, The Birdsbesafe cat collar cover does need a cat collar, which is then put inside of the collar cover, and is used to hold the fabric cover on the cat's neck. Cat collars need to be purchased separately, which helps the cat owner be able to choose and use any brand of cat collar that they like. Make sure to use a breakaway buckled cat collar, which releases automatically. The Birdsbesafe cover is tubular, and open at two ends, so it can release (fall off) the cat if the cat collar buckle opens. That's for cat safety. Thank you!

Cats wearing Birdsbesafe collar covers can hunt mammals "normally." Rodents don't have the same eye features that songbirds do. Expect the usual number of mice and other mammals to be caught. A scientific study in Australia showed some protection for lizards when cats wore Birdsbesafe cat collar covers.

Dogs are commonly called "color blind" for this reason. They also do not see with great detail and clarity from a distance, but rely more on smell and sound. Patterns and colors are not expected to be attractive to coyotes. One could check with local wildlife authorities for further information.
