Great reading avec a look at the 1930's.
The Mid-west comes alive with mooks and molls, dollfaces- and an absence of a wish to mention Shirley Temple- as The Old Masters of bankjobs work en plein air to evoke 'le vie du takedown'. This isn't Ford Madox Ford, this is Thompson Stephen Thompson, with great phrasery like-"shooting at nowhere and hitting it precisely"- and "taking a swim with a refrigerator". The Grumleys were back- with Michael Bolton haircuts- and they were a great addition to pique and scratch the surface of contemporary american life.

Three Stars
Always a good read when a Swagger is involved.

We had Bob Lee and Earl, now granddaddy Charles F Swagger is taking names and kicking ass,
This is a big big improvement on the last few books, which, though readable, seem to have lost a huge amount of sheen. Raw and exciting again.
