Review: Must read, worth every penny. Lucid and informative. - It's is an excellent book. If you want to get a deeper understanding of the world around you and how it functions, you need to read this. An excellent and very informative book on gender studies and feminism, one does not need to be a feminist to read this. It beautifully examined the roots of various beliefs and traditions which we take glory granted, or dub as 'natural'. The best thing about this book is, that it takes into account Indian history, modern and pre modern, and shows us how many of the things we accept as 'our culture' weren't actually ever a part of the Indian culture but as, ironically, Western influences. The legacy we often try to 'protect' is actually not ours. Also, though we do sometimes realise, the term 'Indian' is often just a representative of not the whole of India but just the North India, we do not know how much information we are missing. This book is not an end, but a road to greater realisation, and a worthy start. The language is simple and lucid, and ideas have been discussed very systematically. Well printed and bound, it came in good condition with a free bookmark we are used to from desertcart. Do buy it, you would be pleasantly surprised. It's worth every penny. -Snehal Review: Bold book - Fantastic book! Everyone must read! The writings are bold and brilliant .

Well-Reasoned, Articulate and Convincing!
This is a powerful book that forced me to introspect and question my own views and beliefs about women in society. Prof Menon's style is clear and readable, her narrative is gripping, and her logic and reasoning are undeniable. A great read that you can come back to again after a while.

Eye-opener!!
Fantastic! Highly recommended this! Made me aware about a lot of biases I had just gotten used to! Traces back to the roots of what some of what we consider 'normal societal traditions' !!

Good primer book to understand Feminism
The author has tried to provide the meanings and definitions of various terms and key concepts, which is quite useful in understanding the concept of feminism. This book can be used as a primer to understand what feminism is, what are the issues and concerns. The language of this book is easy and easily comprehendible. I will surely suggest and recommend this book to everyone.
