I think it does smell a bit like the old Vidal Sassoon.

Is this from the actual company Aveda, I was told by a salon owner that Aveda is exclusive to salons and their website only?

The products on Amazon are from a third party. Aveda doesn't endorse this. They do try to keep exclusive to salons and Aveda stores. But it happens. You don't get the points and freebies that Aveda sends with their products though. And the product on Amazon could be old.

Is this shampoo purple?

No. It's more of a pearl white.
