Safe and effective little workhorse!!
I bought this item after an exhaustive review of a ton of space heaters for our non-heated sunroom, where we are quarantining a stray cat for the winter. We needed something that would keep the sunroom at a decent temperature, especially as it can dip below freezing where we live. We wanted something that was quiet to not scare the cat now, and quiet for use later. Most importantly, it had to be safe for both the cat and our home. Family members also recommended oil filled radiator heaters and have used them for years. To be sure, this radiator heater is significantly more expensive than others on the market (though why it costs $40 more for the exact same version in black is beyond me). However, it's made by a well known and respected manufacturer and has safety and energy saving features galore to justify that cost. It heats up quickly, puts out a gentle stream of heat and is keeping our sunroom (easily about 12' x 24') warm. As an example, last night the temperature outside was 28 degrees F - we set the heater to 70 degrees F in Eco mode, and the room stayed between 55 and 60 degrees all night (we use sensors and check frequently on our phone). I also spend many hours in that sunroom in the evenings and found the temperature to be very comfortable in spite of winter's chill outside - the amount of heat this device exudes is fantastic. The heater was super easy to set up - just take it out of the box and plug it in. I was able to do it solo, but it is well packaged so it might be easier to have someone hold the box while you lift the heater out. It has a sleek, modern look to it. It's about 25 lbs and a solid appliance - I like that I didn't have to add oil, or do anything to the device to start using it. Note that this is not a compact heater, so make sure you have plenty of clearance room around for safety. There are no exposed coils to cause sparks/fire and while the fins can get hot, they aren't nearly as dangerous as other space heaters. Keep kids and pets away from the heated device, but that should be the norm for any space heater. I saw the reviews which say the heater pings, makes noises and has a chemical smell. My experience was different - it's super quiet and I didn't smell anything bad, though our sunroom is somewhat drafty which might have helped dissipate any odors. Controls are easy to use (though I'd like to have had a remote control feature) and pretty intuitive. Would have also liked to have a longer cord for portability. All in all, this is a sturdy, robust heater. Quiet, powerful and does what you need it to with a ton of safety features built in. The extra cost is worth it for a quality device, and we don't anticipate having to replace this any time soon. Once the cat quarantine is over, we are looking forward to replacing our existing space heater with this one for comfort and emergencies. Really glad we bought it.

Parrot safe space heater-excellent quality
I needed a parrot safe space heater for my bird room during the night in winter months. I did some research and many bird owners recommended this brand. I am so glad I researched. The heater works great. The quality is excellent. I have used it for almost 2 months now with no issues. It has a temperature timer (eco setting), so it turns off when it reaches temp and on when it drops below. You can also set it to run a certain amount of hours and then auto turn off. It runs very quiet, so it doesn’t scare my birds while they are sleeping. There is also no smell (after doing a several hour burn off before putting it in their room). I don’t find the top to get overly hot (I set it between 70 and 73 degrees, depending on the temperature outside). Even so, I do not have it on when the birds are out of their cages. It’s the only space heater that I have owned that I feel comfortable leaving on while I am sleeping at night. And, it’s the only one I have ever felt comfortable using in my bird room. There are handles on the sides and wheels on the bottom, so I easily move it from the middle of the room to next to the wall every morning and back to the middle of the room every night. I chose the more expensive model and I am glad I did. I am very pleased with the DeLonghi Dragon space heater.

Works! Liked it so much I bought two for my house!
We have been renovating a 90’s build house and needless to say the house is drafty. Our master bedroom and master bathroom are significantly cooler than the rest of the house in the winter. Sometimes they have even been cold. I found this heater and was impressed with its features. I was not prepared for how nice this unit was. It arrived very well packaged and in perfect condition. Upon setting the feet into the correct position on the unit and plugging it in I found it to be extremely intuitive, convenient, and powerful. It has a digital thermostat, just like an AC/ heating unit, and power settings. I have 4 children 8 years old and under and two dogs and no one has burned themselves because of the design. The outer metal allows for greater heat distribution while also allowing the outer metal to be hot enough to reinforce the lesson we taught them not to touch it but not hot enough to burn them. Peace of mind in that safety. It also has a tip over sensor and safety switch. It’s very powerful for its size. Our master bedroom is quite abnormally large. It’s 16’ x 28’ with 10’ ceilings. And it heats so well that the first night when the outdoor temp was 26 degrees F we had to turn off the unit because our room was so hot. We had set it to 73 degrees and full power thinking it might struggle to put off enough heat as it was rated for only a 140’ sqft room. It’s not even listed in the specifications for a room that large. We now set it to 70 degrees and mid power and our room stays the perfect temp all night. We loved it so much we bought a second one for the master bathroom. Now our entire master suite is warm and comfortable! This thing was an answer to a sincere prayer. I feel happier living in our warm home and grateful to be living here instead of wondering what the heck I was thinking when I decided to buy a house with good bones in a great area but that required a bunch of work. After the work is finished and the house is sealed up I won’t need these anymore per say but I will never be giving these away. Of all my purchases this year this may be my favorite. Also, they are very gentle on the energy bill as well. Post covid we all need that. At least we do. I hope this novel of a review helps someone with their decision. Also, some buyers mentioned a loud clicking noise. I believe they did experience what they said. However, with the two that we own we have had no such issues. I am a light sleeper and I could not rest if they made any significant noises. The reviewers did state that they contacted the company and were giving replacements that did not experience the same issue. If I had to guess their units were most likely damaged during shipping. Best of luck and if your house is drafty I believe this may be the best option. Also, if it can’t fix it I believe the issue is more significant. Like there is open access to outside (massive cracks along doors or windows) or there is poor or no insulation. No amount of the heaters can responsibly be expected to combat that level of heat exchange.

Heats up a room like others of this type but read my review about the Eco-Mode.
I have two of these radiator style heaters. The first one is a typical type with normal radiator fins or grills, that unit heats up a room nicely. This De'Longhi Dragon has an Eco-Mode on it, and when the unit is in this mode it doesn't not heat up well. I have to crank the thermostat up to 78 degrees to make it work well enough to get the room to 70, but if I turn off the Eco-Mode then it works fine just like the old one does, and I can turn the thermostat down to 70. The oddity between the two modes is due to this. ECO mode is designed to save electricity by reducing power output and cycling the heater more conservatively. To do that, it allows the room temperature to drift several degrees below the setpoint before kicking back on. So, if you set ECO to 70°F, the heater might not re‑activate until the room drops to around 66–67°F. That feels too cold, so you raise the setpoint to 76–78°F to compensate. ECO mode reduces wattage automatically, in ECO mode it may drop from 1500w to 900W, or 600W, or cycle between them. This means it heats the room more slowly and may never “catch up” unless you raise the thermostat higher. This is normal behavior for De’Longhi ECO mode. If you think about this for a minute you discover that by raising the temp in eco mode to keep it at 70 by 8 or so degrees, vs taking it off of eco mode and setting the temp at 70 degrees to keep it at 70, you are NOT saving any electricity in Eco Mode. Eco mode is a false sense of making people think they are saving money on Eco Mode when the reality is they are not saving any money. The only purpose I can find for the Eco mode is if you are going away for the day or two, you can leave it on Eco mode, and the temp of the room will drop about 8 to 10 or so degrees, but the oil is still warming a bit just on a lower wattage setting, then when you come home you take it off of eco mode and let it heat the room to the temp you have it set for, this way you won't come home to a room that is 20 degrees cooler and take a lot longer to reheat the oil from cold and reheat the room 20 or so degrees. Otherwise, the De'Longhi Dragon works fine, I just don't like the games played by corporations using BS tactics to sell us a product trying to make us think we'll save money. I took a star off due to the Eco-Mode simply being a lie trying to make us think we're saving money but we're not.

Excellent heater.
This heater does what it is designed to do and does it well. Although most reviews are positive I see a few say this smells or doesn't heat enough. I would guess those are unfortunate defects or damaged units because mine is working just fine. I have to say that at first use I though the heater didn't heat enough at mid heating settings but after 10 or 15 mins I can feel the heat from the sides and the top of the unit then realize the room I'm in is no longer cold. A fantastic heater and will most likely get a second one for our living room.

Smells like burning rubber/oil/electrical , stinks up the whole (3000sqft) house in minutes UPDATED
Didn't use heater for over a month due to unusually warm weather. Finally used around Thanksgiving. It heated up a small room well enough though it had a faint electrical burning smell. Since then the smell has increased dramatically to the point it stinks up the whole (3000sqft) house in minutes. Smells like burning rubber/oil/electical now. Still heats well but makes you gag in the process. There is a serious defect in this heater. Looking in from the top a partially detached radiator segment can be seen. Looks to have been made that way as the paint shows no sign of damage. Unplugged now.and will attempt replacement or refund. Update: Called DeLonghi customer service. Was disconnected once while on hold after speaking to a rep, second time I called the gentleman advised me that it was referred to their technicians and probably they would send a call tag to be able to inspect the unit before taking any repair/replacement action. Really? This would have passed for customer service in 1960 but not today. The reason I bought the heater in the first place was to stay warm this winter. Now a long wait before I can stay warm again? Not very thoughtful on their part. UPDATE: Commenter for company obviously did not read the text of this as it already addressed all the helpful suggestions offered. After a month of use, burning oil/rubber smell has gotten progressively worse. I am not a rookie. I have had many space heaters including oil filled in my lifetime and none produced this kind of stink after a few hours' use. To be clear, this is not normal. I did call the customer service number and the results are shown in the previous comment. On the second try, I got a person who referred it to their technicians. Said they would call me. Gave me a case number 5530537. No call yet. Still cold here. If this is the best they can do, no more DeLonghi appliances for me and anyone else I can talk out of it. I have bought this brand before with no trouble, but then again, I never had to deal with what they consider to be customer service. Zero stars at this point. Latest UPDATE: After about another week someone did call, did not quibble, and asked where they could send a new unit. Unit received and after a few hours' burn-in, there is no detectable odor when used on ECO setting. When run on non-ECO, max heat, there is a little bit of the smell mentioned in the original post, but not enough to clear the house like the first one. I noticed there had been some other comments similar to mine about the strong smell. Maybe there was a production glitch recognized in the end. Regardless, I now have a working unit that rates 4 stars from me.

The perfect space heater
This fall, our furnace went out and it was going to be several weeks while we waited for a new heat exchanger to arrive. It was the end of October - early November in the northeast so days were cool and nights were well below freezing. I had an older DeLonghi oil radiator furnace and really liked the even heat they provide and no fan noise. I decided I needed a couple more portable heaters to keep the house warm while we waited for the furnace to be fixed. I purchased two of these heaters and I have no regrets. The older DeLonghi heater had a dial thermostat with 1-10, and it was always difficult to tell where to set it to keep the room comfortable. The old heater would also have a very noticeable click when the thermostat kicked on or off. This new model has eliminated those issues! The digital thermostat is perfect and takes out the guesswork. I set the temperature to 65 and it heats the room to 65. There are some popping noises from the oil starting to circulate when the heater is first turned on, but those go away after about 10 minutes, and it is virtually silent after that. This heater is perfect if you need to supplement heat in a colder room of the house. In fact, now that our furnace is working again I have relocated these heaters to rooms that always stay a little cooler (one in a room over the garage, and one in the basement). These two heaters (along with the older oil radiator heater) kept our 2200 sq ft house comfortable even when temperatures dipped into the lower 20s. I like the look of these compared to the old unit too. It doesn't look as much like a radiator as the fins are hidden by aluminum slats. It's not a beautiful piece of furniture, but it's functional design. Some people feel like a heater must glow bright red and blast out heat like a jet afterburner. This is not that type of heater, nor does it pretend to be. This heater provides a slow even heat that will easily warm up a small room in minutes, while being quiet and safe to the touch. UPDATE: I notice a lot of reviews complaining about some of the odd sounds. Here's my experience. The heater will definitely make some pings and cracks when it is first turned on, and that can be unsettling if you're not expecting it. This is caused by thermal expansion. The unit is at room temperature and when it is turned on the parts of the heater warm up and expands. These sounds subside after the unit has been running for 5-10 minutes. I have also noticed some distinct clicking when the thermostat turns on or off. This is more annoying in a quiet room, and isn't really noticeable if you have any sort of background noise. I have found noticed the clicking is more prevalent when the power level is set to LOW. If I set the power level to HIGH the clicking is still there, but instead of every couple of minutes it might be every 10 or 20 minutes. This is just a guess, but maybe it's because the unit has more ways to cycle when the power is at high (high-med-low-off) vs. low (low-off), and maybe the loudest click is when the thermostat kicks off or comes back on, but setting the power level to high definitely seems to help.
