HAVAHART632 Medium 2-Door Safe Release Humane Live Animal Cage Trap for Squirrels, Rabbits, Skunks

Havahart makes quite an amazing rodent cage. I purchased this in June for the raccoon problem we began to have. Living in the country nearly 18 years raccoons had never been a problem. The end of May, early June they came out of no where. I have a lot of bird feeders & they love the food but we didn’t love them! :) This cage was a life saver for the amount of raccoons that began to appear come darkness. Even after taking all my feeders down at night they would enjoy the food on the ground & began to majorly dig out grass.ENTER: this fabulous cage. The pictures I posted shows all the features of the cage. A variety of both doors being open to set the trap, the doors being shut, the hole they climb through to get out, the small latch on both side which would be tripped upon stepping on the bar in the middle. Now these pictures I took after capturing at least 15 raccoons. This was the biggest & most valuable investment we made & got rid of the entire family of raccoons. I watched some videos on how to capture & the 2 key elements are marshmallows & tuna fish. Raccoons love both~especially the marshmallows. You want to keep them in there long enough to step on the bar in the middle which would close the doors. Some were tricky & somehow got a couple marshmallows without the door closing but we then purchased the very small marshmallows which kept them in the cage longer. My husband had no problem transporting them. We had all sizes & even the largest one wiggled it’s way out the door. Not once did one have trouble getting out because they wanted out. The cage is extremely sturdy & extremely durable. As you can see the pictures went through at least 15 captures & it’s still in excellent condition. I can’t stress enough nor thank Havahart enough for making a cage that truly does what it’s suppose to do. It surely will be ready for more in years to come because that’s how long I think it will last. The raccoons do dig in the grass/dirt area in trying to get out so the only maintenance after capturing one would be getting all the dirt & mud from under the bar/trigger in the middle to set it up for the next night. It’s best to test it out before leaving it for the night. Set it up & then trip it to make sure both doors close. Even a little bit of dirt that got crammed up inside the bar trigger could prevent it from closing. So that’s my story on this awesome cage. If you have a similar problem I recommend this 100%!!

This thing is awesome, I’ve caught 6 squirrels in it already. I even caught 2 w/o baiting the trap, (but setting the spring) lol. You have to place it we’re you want it w/o setting it for several days so, the beast get used to it. Then bait & set it. Be patient, you have to learn how to mount ur bait b4 you get good at it. I was amazed at how well it worked. I let the squirrels go at a park that hade a lake. The auto-door release works like a charm.

So...this came today. Supposed to be a Havahart groundhog trap. No instructions. How do the animals get in? Where do I put the bait? Do I prop it up with a stick and put the bait under? Would give it 5 stars if I knew how it worked. Very confusing.Seriously, Amazon taking it back and sending replacement. I'll rate the real thing later. Just too funny to ignore.

I used this trap to capture armadillos that have been visiting my yard. The trap was easy to set and the timer made it easy to release the animal. This is the 2nd trap I ordered. The first had a bad timer. The company quickly replaced this for me. The handle has a protective shield around it that prevents the caged animal from reaching your hand.One bit of advice, do a few practice 'releases' before you actually set the trap to make sure your timer works and that you know exactly what to do.I am happy with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone who needs to capture armadillos, racoons, or opossums.

Seems to be reasonably good quality, but when both doors are open, it's harder for the trap mechanism to trigger. For 4 or 5 days in a row I baited the trap and would come outside in the morning and find that all of the apples had been eaten and the trap hadn't triggered. The first night that I closed one of the doors and put the bait on the other side of the trap I caught a rabbit.

Caught eight squirrels in 4 days that were raiding my tomatoes. Easy release door on the side so you don't need to fear being bitten or scratched. Door has a timer if you are still unsure. It's all about the bait. Will not work on chip monks. They are too light to set off spring mechanism. They will steal your bait though. Work-around...place bait in a sealed screened pouch under cage. For squirrels, sunflower seeds worked best...even better than peanuts.

While the tap works i was so frustrated with the laziness of this company i decide to give it the lowest rating. If you buy the 998 model it comes with instructions for the lesser model which it very confusing. So igo to their web site in hopes of finding a video and cannot. I call them. It turns out thoes idiots did have a video. It's just the second half of another video that's starts out about a different model. So if you start the video you will think it's the wing one. But if you watch the entire video...half way through it shows you a video on the 998. Very confusing.

Originally I purchased a much less-expensive trap for squirrels. It worked but I had to repair the cage after every capture. Finally the cage broke beyond repair. This trap is much more-heavy duty. It catches squirrels AND is durable enough that the squirrels do not damage the cage. It also has a handy timed release door for conveniently releasing the squirrel.

I was beginning to worry that i would never catch a stray cat but lo and behold i did using this trap. my advice is to experiment with one or two doors, one door worked for me, but its nice to have the option. looks well made and sets up nicely. happy hunting!
