The Lord of the Rings: Original Theatrical Trilogy (Triple Feature BD) [Blu-ray]

At These Prices, You'd Be Crazy Not To Buy
I bought this cuz it's cheap. Are the Theatrical versions better than the Extended versions? No. However, FotR BR Extended has a strange green cast - it's not ruinous, but having owned that on DVD (regular and later extended) I thought it was odd that they would implement such a change. This BR transfer is not top notch - highlights are blown out in places - but it's still good, and has no green cast. And besides, having exclusively watched the Extended versions for the last 20 years, NOT seeing things is now a surprise in itself. Did Gandalf speak the black tongue in Rivendell? Well, not in the Theatrical version. Now I have to wonder if that was made up in my head. Surprise. One place the Theatrical does beat the Extended versions all to heck and back is the credits - if you like to sit through credits and enjoy the music and come to a natural conclusion. The Extended have the same credits, then segue into a thanking of the entire population of Bethesda, Maryland that takes, roughly, 10 lifetimes and feature, yes, great music, but not the natural symphonette of the Theatrical Editions. Could I not just turn it off when the original credits end? Yes, but that would require me to DO something. Here, I enslave Peter Jackson 2001 and make him do it for me.But, these are cheap. So cheap you could buy them by the handful and hand them out for Halloween. I believe I paid in the vicinity of $5 which, if you think about it, is a major miracle - to get 3 shiny coasters with 100s of millions of dollars of NZ ingenuity and talent, telling the greatest story ever told, and you can say no to that? Even at the current $13? I don't think so. And if you turn your back on this miracle then your children will someday have no choice but to watch these movies on some sort of streaming with commercials for all kinds of unspeakable male aids that Tolkien would have declared to be the work of Morgoth himself. Don't let this happen to the young. Buy now.

Great copy of this fantastic trilogy.
This is a great copy of the trilogy and they must have addition to your movie collection in which you can become a part of middle earth and JRR Tolken’s universe with all of its splendor and mysterious intricacies. This film is a great quality and highly recommended for your collection.

Must buy. BTS should be on Blu-ray.
I collected from DVD. Once I go Blu-ray it be super exciting. I'm surprised not many people watch this or love this. For me this Trilogy is a every Christmas movie. Alot of joy . I love the music. Overall story, action, CGI. 10/10 . I ever wanted to work at Weta their New Zealand production company. This trilogy given me hours and hours of dream and fantasy. I played RPG game, this is real life RPG. How I wish they would put the BTS the making into Blu-ray disc.

Best film of all time.
How can one describe perfection… start with the incomparable J.R.R. Tolkien Book Trilogy, and a Director that stuck closely to the original material. Then they gathered a superb ensamble cast to fill the engrossing world they created. And… oh my… Peter Jackson had his friend Richard Taylor start a whole new Special Effects Company, that rivals Industrial Light and Magic… to this day!Meticulous attention was taken on every single phase of this film; from Art Direction, Photography, Set Design, Sound, Special Effects, Production, Direction, and of course the most terrific Cast. This is the Movie (three in effect) that many said it could not be made… the only film to win 17 Academy Awards, including Best Pcture and Best Director. It took ten years to make. And while you’re immersed in the heartbreaking, breathtaking story of all sto, full of incredibly realistic characters, all of this is set to the most mesmerizing, and exquisite Soundtrack composed… EVER!Oh.. I could go on and on. But, you get the point.

Cheap, flimsy case. No style all substance
The Lord of the Rings - One of the most fantastic movies ever created. Everyone has already heard about it. They are amazing, find a way to own them. I would, however, not recommend this release. The case is crappy, flimsy, cheap, with a feeling that it will fall apart in your hands. The discs themselves are silver, with barely any thought put into advertising themselves. The Four stars are due to the fact this is Lord of the Rings. Also, I purchased them new but am pretty positive I received a used copy. It's cheap enough that it didn't matter, and all the disc work, but be warned.

Affordable way to own High Quality LOTR Trilogy
Just got a new projector and wanted to try it out with some good material. The extended version Blu-Ray costs 3X as much (as of summer 2015) and has 5 discs per movie. Since I already have the extended version on DVD, this was a good choice for me. Some have complained that the video quality is compromised by putting each film on one disc, but I did not notice anything but a great improvement over DVD - and I am very familiar with compression artifacts. Having said that, I did not LOOK for problems, so cannot say there are not any. I can say, if they were there, they obviously did not detract from my enjoyment of the movie. The only thing I was disappointed with was that one of the discs was not labeled other than with the movie title, so it looks kind of cheap, but you don't hold the disc while you are watching it, so I cannot say it is that important.

Blu Ray was made for movies like these...
I love these movies, in their original theatrical format (i.e. no added scenes or other bloat; good gravy, the original films are over nine hours long WITHOUT the bloat!). This Blu Ray release brings all three films to your home with amazing clarity in picture and sound. They're a delight to see again, and the special effects are still amazing today.I haven't explored any bonus features or listened to the director's commentary, so I can't speak to those, but the films themselves are beautiful, and the price of this Blu Ray set was what I paid for just one of the movies when they were released on DVD over a decade ago. This is a tremendous upgrade from the DVDs and it looks like the studio gave it the white glove treatment, so that we can have the most visually and aurally stunning presentation possible.
