Read this review. Its accurate.
This review is for a Yellow Mapp Gas bottle. First off, the exterior. Its a metal bottle. No complaints there, its as described. If i received a chocolate cylinder containing high explosive gas id be leaving a bad review. Its also Yellow, just as they promised, athough if it were a different shade of yellow, im not sure that would constitute a poor review. The colour is insignificant with regards to shade, however be aware, it should be yellow. If you get a blue one, or red one, then its probably Butane or Propane, and therefore you should throw your toys out of the pram and go ape at Amazon for royally ruining your day. possibly causing angst within the household and destroying any chance of some relations in bed that night! Inside? Well unfortunately, my Mapp Gas cylinder did NOT come with a quick release inspection lid, so i cant actually see inside. If yours does come with that feature, be sure to use a match or a lit Posse Torch (as used for Ogre hunting or witch burning, available on amazon im sure!) as this gives a great light source. The Gas itself is noisy, it makes a Hiss like an angry Diamondback Rattler, which scared the bejeesus outta me, but i recovered quickly. Fitting it to a bespoke blowtorch is the preferred method here! Silly me! So igniting the gas as it exits the torch gives a great effect, like the afterburner on the SR71 Blackbird, its mesmurising.......... Oh. Oh sorry i was daydreaming there looking at the flame. So after all that, i tried it on some copper pipe, and it turned some 15mm standard copper pipe cherry red in seconds, easily brazing it, or soldering it. I tried the gas on dissimilar metals, i brazed an Alloy washer to a steel pipe, no problems there. Obviously the right filler rod needs to be used, but the heat this gas puts out is enough to burn satans scrotum let alone do any jobs us mere humans would need. So if you managed to read through this drivel, then let me say, Mapp gas is HOT stuff. Sure its more expensive than Butane/propane mixes, but then try brazing steels and alloys with that!!
