Lorenzo is a quiet teenager who lives with his parents and his younger brother in small city in the Argentinean Patagonia. One day, a family friend's son named Caíto moves south and settles in at Lorenzo's home. His family is going through difficult times and can't give much care to him. Caíto is very shy and hardly speaks. Lorenzo is supposed to help him feel at home. They become friends. They spend great amounts of time together. Although Lorenzo doesn't like sports, he puts up with Caíto's fascination for mountain biking. They share deep conversations too. They can be very different but they come to understand each other. It won't be long until everybody at home realizes Caíto is a difficult case. After a couple of days, Lorenzo's parents feel they've had enough. But then, Caíto makes a big confession to Lorenzo. He tells him the true reason why he was forced to leave his house. After that, Lorenzo takes charge of him so that his parents let him stay. He now has a secret to hold, a responsibility to take and a troublesome partner that will take him through new life experiences. Review: An Endearing and Real Film - It Truly was a very entertaining film and so true to real life, we live in a world of people wanting that fairytale ending, I could relate to this film as someone who has had unrequited attraction to another person and although melancholy in parts, it is a wonderful film Review: Beautiful Film - Fantastic coming of age film with marvellous performances by both young actors - really true to life and a wonderful representation of adolescent loyalty that can only come at that age where allegiances are formed on emotional attachment - not judgemental. I can only expect that the future for these young actors are very well placed for success - wonderful performances from such young people.

endearing, but needs a bit more
Caito is very lovable in this film, and it's easy to see what Lorenzo sees in him. Lorenzo also, and he is perhaps more memorable, in a sense, possibly thanks to the actor. I found it a little too restrained in the end - I mean, not even a proper kiss ... I know adolescent friendships can often be like this, but in that case the dialogues need to feel sharper to make up for it. You either have to be Eric Rohmer and fashion a watertight plot out of seemingly inconsequential exchanges, or give us, the viewers, a bit more of what we want to see, namely something that engages more fully with the love impulse, as you get in Andre Techine's recent Quand on a 17 ans. The treatment of Lorenzo's feelings is sensitive in a way that is just a bit too underlined, as if saying how wonderfully politically correct we all are now. But somehow it doesn't then make sense that he would have any problem admitting it, which he clearly does. It just doesn't quite add up, and the heterosexual episode feels very forced given how he comes across, and the lack of pressure on him. It is enjoyable to watch, but not a film to compare with the Techine, which hasn't had a UK release in spite of his being such a brilliant filmmaker. So what's new, really?

This film is ok. It tells the story of ...
This film is ok. It tells the story of a friendless man trying to prove for a bet that he has friends. It's a little drawn-out. It has sub-titles.

The 'classic' meaningful French movie
The French can make the movies which are full of meaning but are also very easy to watch. This is one of the great examples of the French 'savoir faire' in the domain of educating and entertaining us at the same time. The movie is about friendship, a concept which is perhaps ever more urgent in the age of Facebook, etc, and so, it is important indeed to remind us what is real friendship and real communication. The acting is the best of the best and for someone who wants something different from highly entertaining but empty, this movie will surely contribute to a great experience.

enjoyable, warm-hearted movie
Very much enjoyed this well-crafted dtory, with superb understated acting from Daniel Auteuil and Danny Boon. When a movie is this absorbing subtitles are no problem and the story is delightful.

Disclaimer: It seems that all reviewers before 2019 are referring to the similarly titled French film "Mon Meilleur Ami" (My Best Friend in English) from 2006. However, I am referring to the Argentinian film "Mi mejor amigo" (My Best Friend in English) from 2018. The film is about the evolving friendship of the young protagonists Lorenzo and Caíto who could not have been more different. Lorenzo sees something in Caíto that others don't. He, Lorenzo, is a very caring and lovable character, whereas Caíto, at first, is very confused with himself and the situation he got himself into. With his selfless kind Lorenzo finds a way to get Caíto into opening up about himself little by little. Fortunately, the emotional screenplay never seems to be out of place, nor does it appear awkward at any point. Further, while the bond between the two is growing stronger, a romantic affection also comes into play. However, the main focus remains on their friendship, and that not for the worse. A truly believable and free of any pathos kind of friendship. (Personal note: If I still was a teenager, I would perceive it more relatable this way than any making-out-wildly story.) Beyond that, the supporting characters have their strong moments, too. I especially want to point out the way the son and his mother interact in one particular scene near the end. It had a very strong impact on me, and I really felt like it could have been my own mom being there in front of the screen. You can literally feel the emotional bond between them. All in all very touching and believable.

E' un bel film a tematica omosessuale ( e quindi rivolto ad un pubblico omosessuale come me)

I like Danny Boon movies. I have practically a collection. He's like the Adam Sandler, but a French of France type. Hilarious actor in all his movies. Very facial expresssive.

It’s a little lighter than perhaps you might expect from a film by this director but for what it is - an entertainment - it’s well done and enjoyable. The story is fairly predictable and the characters overdrawn, but the whole thing is saved by excellent acting and the director’s practised skill with gentle comedy.

MY BEST FRIEND (Dir: Patrice Leconte, France 2006). In "My best friend", Monsieur Françoise Coste (Daniel Auteuil), is a solitaire Marchant, that with his partner Catherine (Jullie Gayet), attend an auction, hence calls its attention, a black vase with Greek figures about the friendship (the vase used to contained the tears of a friend). Coste wins in the auction the vase, by which pays a stratospheric price of 2.00000 Euros. That same night, is held an informal dinner with his dealers friends, where M. Coste stresses that he attended to a funeral of a colleague where only about seven people were in the church. Somebody reply that probably to M. Coste's funeral nobody will attend because he doesn't have any fiend. He is flouting that assertion, and when asked to mentioning the name of one friend, not colleague or client, he is paralyzed, Catherine bet the vase with M. Coste, invited to displayed, in the period of 10-day his "best friend. " The loneliness of contemporaries men is the landscape of this Leconte story. Bruno the taxi-driver who has collecting historic facts and trivial, dates, events, authors, with aspiring compete in one of this television shows knows, that his three "S": smile, sincerity and sympathy, although them work in their taxi-driver business, that do not help in every days life. The friendship, this form of get in touch with people mirroring the bond of blood or heritage, comradely, without necessarily have a sexual motive, it is almost disappearing. Men do not use to be so friendly any more with one or two people. Women do all the time. Men do not. They are massively "friends", but the one or two, paralyzing them before the possibility of what it can comment or, in the worst cases of what he can feel. One does not choose brothers but friend we do, so is one of the main issues of this very good film of Laconte. The evolution gave us a brain too large, for the basic functions of an organism, eating, sleeping, reproduced, the reason for this is the socialization, verbal and non-verbal languages, the neurons in mirror, to "read the mind" of another to make coherent my interaction. And yet, Laconte said, despite having a brain equivalent a very sophisticate and expensive car, we, men, use that fancy machine only to go to "seven & eleven", and return to our bedroom to sigh because our loneliness.
