Lets get ready to rumble!
Royal Rumble 2000 takes place as follows:(1) Kurt Angle v Mystery OpponentThe opening of the main event begins with Kurt Angle, who is undefeated at this stage, entering the ring and winding up the fans by slagging the New York Knicks. The mystery opponent (who's appearance did come as a genuine surprise at the time) is a person who's had an illustrious career. His entrance generates a lot of buzz and he gets a raucous reaction from the crowd. The match itself is very entertaining, with a lot of suplexes and submission manouevres; there's a lot of good technical wrestling on show from both opponents. The mystery opponent for whatever reason didn't quite fluorish in the WWE after this, as many would have expected. He would later become best remembered in the WWE for his feud with none other than Jerry Lawler **hint hint** (yes, if you're wondering if that's Jerry Lawler as in the commentator, you are correct). Nonetheless, a great opener to the main event. The only downside is that the match is far too short.6.5/10(2) Tag Team Tables Match: The Dudley Boyz v The Hardy BoyzAs you would expect, these two tag teams put on a great spectacle once again. Whilst this isn't up there with their greatest ever matches, it is still thoroughly entertaining. Despite the heavy use of weaponry, and the contestants spooling out into the crowd, the match maintains its fluidity throughout. All of the maouevres are executed convincingly. There are some pre match shenanigans as well which adds to the entertainment, when The Dudley Boyz express their dislike of the crowd for booing John Rocker (the MLB baseball player) after he had been critical of New York (ironically the Dudley Boyz hail from New York themselves). The match plays out well and there are a couple of good spots.9/10(3) Miss Rumble 2000 Swimsuit ContestWhere to start! I personally enjoyed this entertaining interlude. The PG censorship brigade would probably baulk if they witnessed such content nowadays - but in the nicest way possible, they can go f**ck themselves! Many people (myself included) actually miss the divas contests. Whilst I think it's good to have proper women's wrestling bouts, the exhibitionism and eye candy you used to get from bra & panties matches or lingerie matches is sorely missed by many. Variety is the spice of life. Who wants to watch the same boring, censored, lame spectacle, match after match? I certainly don't, hence why I stopped watching wrestling years ago. I come from Scotland, so I don't get to see beautiful bikini clad women all too often - we only have about 1 sunny day a year apart from anything else. Terri Runnels and Jacqueline look ridiculously hot in their respective swimwear outfits! Even the more conservative Ivory gets in the spirit by sporting a very sexy turquoise number. Luna plays the panto villain by refusing to take her coat off, which is rather humorous. There is a controversial ending to the contest as well, and an historic WWE moment.7/10(4) Triple Threat Match for the Intercontinental Championship: Chris Jericho (c) v Chyna (c) v Hardcore HollyAfter a great build up to this match, and an interesting storyline, I was left really disappointed. The inclusion of Hardcore Holly is a bit random; however it turns out to be a welcome one, as he is the only performer I would give pass marks to. Despite being two of my favourite wrestlers, Chyna and Jericho are incredibly sloppy and unconvincing in their execution throughout. As a result, there is no real fluidity, and the match is very stop start. Whilst I was a big admirer of Chyna, I felt a lot of her bouts against male opponents could be hit and miss. This match is nothing to write home about. A bit of a let down. Hardcore Holly saves it from being a complete flop to be honest.3/10(5) Tag Team Championship Match: The New Age Outlaws (c) v The AcolytesA good solid display from all competitors involved. Whilst it isn't as entertaining as the other tag team match, it maintains interest throughout. The match is far too short though. Would've much preferred the previous match to have been the shorter of the two.7.5/10(6) WWE Championship Streetfight: Triple H (c) v Cactus JackThe storyline and build up for this match is great! Both competitors put in a valiant effort. Lots of blood, gore & weaponry. In terms of historic hardcore matches, this is certainly up there with the best of them. The infamous thumb tacks make an appearance, and the stretcher is summoned at one point too. A great match for the wrestling purists. Despite the fact it's a street fight, I feel the best moments of the match actually take place in and around the ring.9/10(7) 30 Man Royal Rumble MatchA very historic rumble match with an incredibly controversial ending! This was my favourite era of the wrestling, and it was nice to see all of the different personas. Rikishi is as formidable as ever; eviscerating anything/anyone who comes his way. We even get to see his signature dance, along with the other members of Too Cool (Scotty 2 Hotty & Grandmaster Sexy). Will he eventually be stopped? The Big Show coming in at #26 and Kane at #28 both have great chances to sweep up, will either of them be able to make the most of their advantage? During the match, non participants Kaientai (Funaki & Taka Michinoku) randomly and repeatedly enter the ring before being thrown out soon after. There is an extraordinary botched landing for Taka Michinoku at one point! You see the full affects of his awkward head/neck first landing. Definitely one of the most gory things I've ever seen. Thankfully Taka wasn't too badly hurt, and lived another day. Watch out for that spot. Whilst I don't think it's the greatest rumble match of all time, it's certainly up there. The ending alone is worth a watch!9/10Overall this is a great PPV; one of the best ever in my opinion. I'd definitely recommend it to any wrestling fans looking to add to their collection, or first time buyers, or someone looking for a good PPV to get a nostalgia kick from.

"The Rock is Going to WrestleMania 2000"
The ultimate ***** WWF pay-per-view, that I reckon does still get talked about today :D.The WWF event itself took place, in the worlds famous arena e.g. Madison Square Garden, New York City. The match card was just outstanding and well coordinated, with the likes of a first ever tag team tables match, between the Hardy Boys and the Dudley Boys.We had the match favorite of the pay-per-view, the brutal street fight between Cactus Jack, and Triple H for the WWF Championship. The match was brutal from start to finish, and featured lots of blood and lots of weapon usage e.g. a 2x4 wrapped in barb wire, which Triple H was opened up with.Plus we had the traditional 30 man Royal Rumble match, which had a vast amount of great superstars, including the Rock, Big Show, Rikishi, Kane, X-Pac, Road Dogg, Mr Ass, Edge, Christian etc.WWF Royal Rumble 2000 is probably the best rumble of them all, and I can't see anyone hating this event, so buy it :D.

The Golden Age Begins
As successful a year 1999 was for the WWF, the booking and storylines often left a lot to be desired (not that a certain V. Russo had anything to do with that). However a new millennium meant a new start, and everything that could go right for them at the turn of the year, did go right. More on that later though, review time.Live from some place called Madison Square Garden. Never heard of it, what are they wrestling on? Grass?Kurt Angle vs TO BE REVEALEDKurt was still in his early days here, but in the coming months you could tell he was gonna be a star, even with hair. The mystery opponent turns out to be Taz, who gets an ALMIGHTY pop. Beware: Suplex overload. The match is basically a glorified squash, with some decent offense from Angle. Taz finishes with the Tazzmission (sigh, fine I'll use two z's) after about 3 minutes. Considering its length, actually pretty good, with a really hot crowd. Taz would then go to the dizzying heights of jobbing to Prince Albert, losing to an announcer, and then becoming one himself. FTW indeed. **Post match, Taz vows to run right through the entire company. Probably to get away from them all laughing at him.Tables match: The Hardy Boyz vs The Dudley BoyzHere were another group of guys in the Hardys who you could tell had huge potential. The Dudleys pretty much spoke for themselves. Speaking of which, Bubba runs down the crowd and mentions John Rocker. I'm sure in 2000 it meant something. These matches are inconsistent as all hell in their rules. Basically, you have to SEND your opponent through a table, self harm doesn't count. This match includes the infamous Jeff Hardy swanton off the balcony, something he never thought of doing over and over to the point it became stale (cough cough). There are a number of other cool spots too which I won't go through (I don't do play by play) and all in all it was a fun match. Very spotty, but none of them felt contrived and they played into the story, rather than just being there for the sake of it. ***3/4In the back, Angle claims he's still undefeated because Taz used a choke. I must have missed when the results included a "Won by choke" column.Royal Rumble Swimsuit Competition...Backstage, Chris Jericho and Chyna have a squabble over who gets to wear the title to ringside (they were co champions at this point). Earl Hebner says neither of them get to wear it. A.K.A If you can't play nice I'm confiscating this so NEITHER of you can have it! Hebner would make an awesome dinner lady.Intercontinental Title, Triple Threat: Chris Jericho vs Chyna vs Hardcore HollyYeah...basically Jericho and Chyna pinned each other simultaneously so became co champions. Triple H/Shawn Michaels from RAW 2003 says hello. Hardcore Holly is also in the match just...because. Talk about a third wheel. The match itself isn't that bad for 7 minutes, despite the handicaps of the Triple Threat gimmick. Jericho ends the match and (mercifully, the angle) after bulldogging Chyna after she had Holly in the Walls of Jericho and finishing her with the Lionsault. Solid midcard match. **1/2Michael Cole conducts an interview with The Rock, who was just getting comfortable with his promos at this point. They're not as polished as 2001/02, but bring out that cocky, condescending side of The Rock that I love. Rocky states he's worried about being eliminated by...Crash Holly and Headbanger Mosh. He then tells Cole to get a nice tall glass of shut up juice. I second that over ten years later.Elsewhere, Jericho dubs his new belt the InterChrisinental Title. I like it, it's that kind of character that goes into wrestlers that makes their joy of having the title believable.WWF Tag Team Titles: The New Age Outlaws vs The AcolytesMeh. Basically another squash. The Acolytes basically beat NAO around for a bit before Billy Gunn pulls the ref out and X Pac interferes, allowing Gunn to hit the Fameasser on Bradshaw for the win about 2 minutes in. 3/4*Time for something amazingly kickass awesome. Recap of the Triple H/Foley feud where Hunter and Steph dominated the company, destroying everyone in their path including Mankind. Mankind says he's in no condition to face Hunter for the title, but he does have a substitute. "I think you know the guy, HIS NAME, IS CACTUS JACK!". God, that gave me goosebumps just typing it, one of my favourite video packages the WWF have EVER done.WWF Title: Triple H vs Cactus JackHunter sends Stephanie to the back, hopefully so the camera will actually be focused on the wrestlers throughout the whole match. Crowd is PUMPED for this by the way. This was a real coming out moment for Triple H. We saw he could go with Austin, work with The Rock, and act as a believable, hateful heel. Now he was Champion, there was a lot of pressure on Hunter to deliver the goods in a big match environment, and boy does he ever. He has the perfect opponent to work with though, as Foley works the match perfectly. The styles of the two men work flawlessly, with Triple H's methodical, technical approach contradicting the gung ho all out brawling of Foley. It never feels like a glorified carryjob, as both men bump for each other perfectly. The end comes with Cactus takes an INSANE bump as Hunter Pedigrees him FACE FIRST (no duh) into the thumbtacks after 26 minutes of brutality. Owee...Totally crazy, bloody and brilliantly booked match, that cemented Hunter as the company's top heel. An absolute must see match that set the standard for many of Foley's return matches against the likes of Orton and Edge. *****Post match, Cactus throws Triple H off his stretcher and attacks him. YOU GONNA WALK OUT BOY. This gave the crowd some fire back as the end of the match deflated them.Royal Rumble Match:WAY too much to cover here, but it was a pretty fun Rumble. I think everyone knew The Rock would win, as there weren't really many believable contenders. With Austin and The Undertaker out, there was only Rock and Big Show that posed any threat, and guess who the last two men in the ring were? Despite that though, an entertaining enough Rumble if you can overlook the predictability. ***1/2A historically important show, as with Austin and Taker not back for a while (as well as Vince) it was vital that new up and comers, such as Triple H, The Rock, Jericho and Angle, could step up to the plate and become main contenders. How do you think they did? Young tag teams like The Hardy Boyz and Edge and Christian were also on the rise, and the Radicalz would follow soon after. 2000 truly was a golden era for the WWF, and it was this show that kickstarted its ascension.Recommended.
