Solved an awkward switch problem perfectly
This Nanoleaf Sense+ wireless light switch has been a fantastic solution for a room where the existing light switch was on the opposite side of the space. It completely saved me from having to rewire anything, which was exactly what I needed. Setup was quick and straightforward, and it paired easily with my Nanoleaf lights. The motion and daylight sensors are genuinely useful, the lights turning on automatically when you walk into the room in the dark feels surprisingly premium and convenient. The two configurable buttons are great for manual control and dimming, and everything responds quickly. I also really like that the switch is detachable, so you can place it on a table or keep it nearby instead of mounting it permanently. Overall, it’s a smart, flexible, and well-thought-out product that adds real convenience without any installation hassle. Highly recommended if you want smart lighting control without rewiring.

Great idea. Terrible experience. Didn’t even survive 48 hours.
I had high hopes for the Nanoleaf Sense+ Smart Wireless Light Switch. A wireless smart switch with Matter support sounded like the perfect way to control lights without rewiring walls. Sadly, this turned into one of the most frustrating smart-home devices I’ve bought. Matter setup – never actually worked The plan was to add it via Matter to my Aqara setup. In theory: simple. In practice: repeated pairing failures. Resets, retries, different devices — it just would not complete the Matter connection process. For something marketed around Matter compatibility, that’s a pretty big problem. Then it just… died After about two days, it stopped responding entirely. No lights, no connection, no signs of life. New batteries didn’t help. It basically turned into a small, square piece of modern art. Smart home gear being a bit buggy? Annoying but common. Completely dying after 48 hours? Not acceptable. The concept is great On paper this device is brilliant: ✔ Wireless ✔ Scene control ✔ Modern design But none of that matters if it won’t connect — or worse, stops working altogether. Verdict I really wanted to like this, but between Matter setup failures and the unit dying almost immediately, it’s going straight back. I used to be a big Nanoleaf fan and had several of their products around the house. But after repeated reliability issues and now a device that failed completely within days, I’m slowly replacing them with more stable alternatives. Smart home gear should fade into the background and just work — not become another thing to troubleshoot.

When it works
Setting up the Sense+ has been quite a challenge; I had to delete all my lights and re-add them individually. Once everything is functioning, it's fantastic. However, there's no option to control two zones or rooms with a single remote, so I ended up purchasing a second one. Overall, I really enjoy it. The choice of battery is somewhat unusual, but it's worth considering. I haven't used it long enough to comment on its durability. If you're not a fan of the app or are looking for a faster way to operate light strips, it's definitely a worthwhile investment.

Fiddly for Thread, but do persevere.
This is a great item, setting up on Thread to use with Apple Home proved a bit fiddly but works really well once done. Motion and light detection work really well.

Despite claims to the contrary, this is for Nanoleaf lights ONLY
The advertised specs of this smart switch were very promising; six buttons, inbuilt motion and light sensors, plus WiFi, Thread and Bluetooth connectivity as well as Matter compatibility allowing use with Apple HomeKit, Google Home and Alexa. Seemingly a light switch that does just about everything right... sadly in almost every respect this switch doesn’t live up to the hype. Firstly let’s start with the positives; if you own recent Nanoleaf lights then this switch will connect to them using Nanoleaf’s proprietary protocol - Litewave - perfectly and control them either by button presses or the inbuilt motion/light sensors very well. This is the only scenario where I could recommend this light switch. Now for the bad news. The claims of WiFi, Thread and Bluetooth connectivity make this sound like a very universal device, however this is rather misleading. What is really happening here is that using Nanoleaf’s proprietary Litewave protocol this switch can connect to any Nanoleaf light - be it WiFi, Thread or Bluetooth - it cannot connect to other generic gateways/hubs. My final hope was the claimed Matter compatibility, I thought at least this will allow me to connect to Home Assistant and get this working with non-Nanoleaf products as claimed in the description. Unfortunately the claims of Matter support are farcical; firstly you require a Thread border router, as that is the only connection option supported by this device for Matter, secondly should you have such a device only the two side buttons are usable with Matter, the other four buttons and motion/light sensors are NOT available. Perhaps a future update will remedy this but currently the limited Matter support is basically pointless. The switch itself feels reasonable quality, not dissimilar to products from other brands, but the mounting plate has a rather big flaw. You cannot replace a standard light switch with this device as unlike say the Hue Dimmer V2 the screw holes are not spaced to suit a standard UK light switch back box, there are just two holes positioned in the centre making this only suitable for stand alone mounting. If Nanoleaf had just been honest and advertised this as only suitable for use with Nanoleaf products supporting the Litewave protocol then I would have rated this 4 stars. However I felt let down at every turn so rating against Nanoleaf’s claimed functionality I can only rate this 2 stars. As such I have averaged this out at 3 stars.

I bought this Nanoleaf smart button to control my Nanoleaf smart bulb in the E27 version (matter over thread). The button can be added to Apple home app. All work perfect!
