This puzzle book was recently recommended to me and it has been a really long time since I have found a challenging and fun work book for adults. It reminds me of the work books I got as a kid but on a level that I feel is keeping me just as occupied for the same amount of time. While there is a lot of general knowledge there is also a lot of engineer specific things that tie the work into its title. But its just a title as far as this substitute teacher is concerned. I highly recommend this one to adults or teens looking for a challenge, and to teachers needing to spark a little creative thinking in their students. During a quiz today I handed off this book to a student who seems to always be finishing before anyone else and she was so excited to show me how quickly she finished 76, a puzzle I have been unable to figure out while flipping through. But she was able to finish it within the 10 minutes she was waiting for everyone else to catch up and I am still trying to figure out how she did it. She asked me to check it and when I did she had found the solution but had never checked the back. I think the best part about this is how the solutions in the back are set up. They are multiple solutions per page, rather than one solution for each page to fill up the empty space and I appreciate that in a good puzzle book, it makes it harder to search for the solutions and keeps you on track solving the puzzle rather than just filling in what you see. Not unique solutions for Sudoku’s
I liked the variety of puzzles (except for the skeleton crosswords - ordinary crossword puzzles are hard enough). The danger of giving a book like this to engineers is that they will find flaws. A couple of the Sudoku’s I did so far have multiple solutions - I ran them through a software program and confirmed. e.g. #11 row 4, col 3 and 4 and row 5 col 3 and 4 could be interchanged. A properly designed sudoku should only have one solution.

Do Not Buy
This book is riddled with errors. Some make it impossible to solve the problems. You can spend a lot of valuable time trying to solve a puzzle that cannot be solved because of a typo in the clue. Many of the puzzles, especially the sudoku puzzles had more than one correct answer.

Great challenge!
Great variety of puzzles to keep your brain sharp and help with your critical thinking. Each one seems.to make your brain think harder and try to find the logical solutions. Great puzzle book.

Not just for engineers
Brain Teasers for Smart Engineers, is a series of puzzles ranging from Sudoku Puzzles to Crosswords. The puzzles within this book can make sure that you are working your brain while also making sure that you are having a great time working your brain. I had a really fun time working my way through these 100 puzzles. Were there some that were harder than others… yes. But that doesn't mean that they were not as fun. They were the ones that required a bit more brain power to make sure that you were understanding what it is that they were asking in how to solve it. If you love brain teasers then look no further because this one is the book for you. And I promise that you won't be disappointed.

I have bought this book as a Christmas present for my neighbour who is a hydraulic engineer and who I know will enjoy it. Looking through it I found I could complete two of the puzzles even though I am not especially good at puzzles. So not only engineers will have fun with this book
