All Things Considered, a Great Battery
Simply put, this is a great battery. I only have two gripes with it, but it has performed well in every 20v application I have put it through. I tried to upload as many photos as I could to give you a better sense of the size including a comparison between the 1.7ah Powerstack and 5ah XR battery it replaces. Even threw in the beefy 15ah XR for good measure. These photos should also give you a better idea as to what it looks like on several tools. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Pros: - More runtime: Besides the FlexVolt batteries, I've noticed a good difference in runtime between the 5ah Powerstack and 5ah XR battery. - More consistent power: There is definitely more consistent power output in this battery (1.7ah included) than all the other XR batteries. This rivals the 12ah Flexvolt FlexVolt in terms of power consistency. That is impressive. It is most noticeable when I'm using tools like the cordless heat gun. - Rubber base: Just like the 1.7ah Powerstack, the 5ah has the grippy rubber base screwed on the bottom. I don't know why DeWALT refuses to do this on other batteries besides the Powerstack line, because it reduces the chance of marring whatever surface you place it on. Pretty nice. - Larger size: Some people are opposed to this, but I see it as a benefit. Because the base of the battery is wide, it makes whatever tool it's mounted too, harder to and less likely to get knocked over. That's a problem the 1.7ah has (in my experience). Last thing I want is to knock my drill over and damage flooring or fall off a ladder. Will the overall increase in size restrict where I can fit my tool? Yes, 100%. However, it is very rare I run into this problem, and if I ever do, I can just slap in the 1.7ah and I'm good to go. Both batteries compliment each other nicely and have their uses. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Cons: - Weight: This battery is HEFTY for a 5ah. Because of how densely the power cells are packed inside, this thing weighs a lot more than I was expecting. I think this in part to how much I got used to the weight of the 1.7ah and figured the 5ah wouldn't be too off. But it is easily 3x heavier than the 1.7ah and 1.5x heavier than the 5ah XR. - Cost: Obviously, this was going to come up. As you can tell by the price (at least at the time of writing this review) these puppies cost some serious bookoo bucks. ~$210 - $220 for 1 and ~$320 - $350 for the 2-pack. That cost is insane for 5ah batteries and is more in the FlexVolt price range. As a comparison, I waited for Black Friday and got 2, 15ah FlexVolt batteries for $500 on ACME Tools. Pretty crazy these can cost almost as much as a 15ah if you're patient. For myself and my business, I can afford it and the time saved due to the power output is worth the longterm cost, so this purchase made sense to me. Time is money. But the group of people this applies to may be a little niche and not worth the cost, especially since you can easily get 2, 5ah XR batteries for $150. At the end of the day, to each their own, what makes sense to you, may not make sense to others. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Would I recommend this battery? To very few people. Is it a great battery? Absolutely.

Research recomended this battery as one of the best for Dewalt tools.
My husband and I both use a lot of indoor and outdoor tools and have found that Dewalt tools are reliable. I recently bought a Dewalt pole saw, and decided to buy a couple of extra batteries so that work I was doing was not halted for lack of a functioning battery. In my research, I found that this battery model was highly rated. I learned that a higher AH rating means the battery can power devices for a longer time before needing a recharge which means less recharging. My husband has a couple of Dewalt batteries for his tools that he offered to share, but the AH rating is much lower on his batteries. I chose to get my own batteries for my tools. Like most products you buy, you need to do the research. A good deal is not always the best deal. I am happy with these batteries for the longer time to be used, and would recommend them. I hope this review was helpful for you.

Reasonable cost, dependable battery, durable battery for most of your battery powered tools.
Standaard DeWalt 5 ah battery, well built, easy to use/charge/store. On battery power meter lets you know how much battery you have left. 5 ah gives you plenty of power for most jobs and then some to spare. The size is just a little larger than a 4 ah battery, the weight is not bad, works with most Dewalt 20 volt tools. Would buy again.

Upgrade those old packs
So glad DeWalt made bigger battery packs for these things. Great battery life (and it was already good) and they sync up with every DeWalt that uses battery packs. Zero complaints. Worth the upgrade! They are a bit heavier, but not enough to make my work harder.

Batteries
OK, the batteries were good quality. The charges didn’t stay as long as I expected them to, but I would buy them again.

5AH Batteries
Work great with my 1/2 impact no issues. Dropped them in the tool a few times and held up fine. Noticeably long battery life, tore apart the whole read end in my 05 Mustang and was still on 2/3 bars.
