No, 4.2lbs appears to be the shipping weight. The monitor is 1.76lbs (according to ASUS specs). Adding the carrying case and cable it's about 2lbs, all in.

Q: What is the difference between this and mb168b+? the number increased by 1 to mb169.

The mb168b+ has a WLED/TN Panel, Brightness(Max) : 250 cd/m2, Contrast Ratio (Max) : 600:1The mb169b+ has an IPS Panel, Brightness(Max) : 200 cd/m2, Contrast Ratio (Max) : 700:1In other words, the 169b+ offers a better viewing angle and it is a bit crisper but also a bit duller or less vivid. I guess you can't win 'em all!

Q: can this be used as a field monitor from a dslr ? Does it have an hdmi input?

You can connect the dslr to a capture carg and then the capture card to it ... I ordered the monitor and waiting for the delevery .. I come back and give you correct answer ..

Q: does the stand it comes with allow portrait and landscape layout?

Yes. It isn't a free-standing stand as you'd normally understand it to be - it is merely the carry case where bits at the front fold over to create a 'slot' to hold the screen, either vertically or at a slight slope. You can do this either way with the screen.
