Adrian Mike and the Weapons of Mass Destruction
This is an amazing book, and I enjoyed it immensely! It's the first Adrian Mole I have read, and while I always try to start a series with the first book, I am glad I made an exception. I want to read the rest of the series as soon as possible. I am not going to try to describe the plot except to say that it's a genius combination of humor and sensitivity to the difficulties of everyday life. Highly recommended. :-)

I started re-reading these books when I heard the news that Sue Townsend had died.
I remembered them as being beautifully written, all those years ago when I (and the rest of the world ) discovered Adrian Mole, aged 13 and 3/4. I had great hopes for the TV series, but apart from Ian Dury's stunning theme ("I'm Profoundly In Love With Pandora") it left me a bit underwhelmed.I gave up after that and didn't even notice the follow-ups. I'm in New Zealand' and in those days, records, magazines etc - they all took a while to get here to the other end of the planet. So I downloaded as much Sue Townsend as I can and I'm working my through the whole series. The writing and structure is so much better than I remember. These stories still make me laugh out loud. Mind you, I've just turned 61 and it's getting harder to find things to laugh about... but these are magnificent. If that's been a while for you, PLEASE give Adrian another shot. He's worth it....

Loved this book!
This is the first Adrian Mole book I read, and absolutely loved it! The humor and situations Mr. Mole found himself in were great and often had me laughing out loud! Being a fan of Jane Eyre, I loved the few mentions also. This is one book that made me sad when I finished reading, and can not wait to read more of this author's books!

A marvelous read...
Most enjoyable tale of life for one troubled soul who is a mixture of conflicts, distractions, contradictions, Love, hate, and self-absorption...there’s a bit of Adrian Mole in many of us.

Adrian triumphs again
The saga of Adrian Mole continues with our hero buying his first home despite the fact he cannot afford it.Like his previous adventures this book is written in Diary format but does not have regular day after day entries. The story covers Adrian Mole getting into ever increasing debt whilst dating a simple minded girl from a crazy family with a stupid name.Despite his snobbish naivety he survives it all whilst maintaining an unshakable reliance on the prime minister regarding weapons of mass destruction. The book is very cleverly written by the late Sue Townsend with the jokes being more obvious than earlier editions yet still a very accurate portrayal of real life. The letters written to celebrities by Adrian either wanting them to speak at his poetry club or general criticism are funny but a bit rude as he tends to talk down to people in letters but not face to face. He also continues in his quest to be a writer with his novel ' Lo! The Flat Hills of my Homeland' which he is passionate about and yet he cannot see that his book is his autobiography where he has tried to hide himself behind characters which he thinks are fictional but are most certainly real.

Lovely stuff.
After falling sick and knowing I would be bed ridden for a few days I immediately thought of Adrian Mole as the comfort read to get me through. Didn't disappoint. Returning to the character after 20 years away, I encountered the same joys as when reading the earlier books. Older but not a great deal wiser, our hero's world is never dull and involves a surprisingly wide cast of eccentric characters. Gives me a renewed appetite for all things Moley. Just hope he can clear his debts somehow.

Thoughtful observations.
Witty and controversial at the time of publishing ten years ago, but still absolutely relevant; Ms Townsend's razor sharp observations - as described in the diary of her wonderful character Adrian Mole - on the tragic and infamous Blair & Bush determination for war in Iraq at any cost, of which Europe and the world are still reaping the backlash. And the sinister seduction of easy credit card debt for people who are unable to repay.

Adrian - We shall miss you!
I like the whole series of AM and unfortunately missed this one on the way through. It makes very light reading and the humour is particularly apt. I am sad that Sue Townsend recently died - the end of an era. I found this book very easy to pick up and put down whilst on a cruise - so that the relatively short chapters provided light relief and easy reading in small chunks.

Funny and Moving.
Sue Townsend has a rare talent. She seems to be able to get inside the head of her characters, of course she must 'know' Adrian very well by now! This book is both funny and unexpectedly touching, I won't say why in case it spoils the pleasure for someone who hasn't read it. Purchase this book and think back to the Blair administration and the Iraq War. Don't misunderstand me, the humour is still very prevalent and somehow adds to the poignancy.
