Best PS5 Hall Effect Controller
Last Updated: January 12th 2026, after a few months of ownership; still amazing. Original: (Background) I'll be honest I play video games every single day. From Marvel Rivals, Overwatch 2, Apex, Rocket League, Minecraft, Arc Raiders, Battlefield, Monster Hunter, you name it I played it. I have always used the playstation controllers and after going through four PS5 controllers I was over it... I reached the point where I bought the sensors and a solder gun and would just fix it DIY, which works but is extremely tedious and has a high chance of messing up your controller if you fail. I was so tired of buying a new controllers or fixing them. So I thought about getting the dualsense edge. But it uses the same joystick sensors as a regular PS5 controller... yay more stick drift. Then $20 for each stick to replace it. Heck no lol. (The Hex Controller) Then I looked up the best PS5 hall effect controller. This was within the recommendations and was a top contender. (Also FYI I almost ordered the wrong controller so make sure it says "hall effect"in the name or prodcut ladies and gents!) Anyways this is the BEST investment of money for a controller I've ever made! I'm kicking myself in the butt for not buying it years ago. Hall effects last for YEARS and are smooth! This controller feels amazing in the hands and top quality. All my buttons worked, it came tuned right out of the box, make sure to check everything once it arrives. The different profiles work great for all the different games you wanna play and even has the ability to turn it off if you don't care for the back buttons. For shooter games those mouse click triggers change the game especially for burst/semi auto guns (The Kettle on Arc Raiders) or that ADS speed. Overall if you get this controller on sale here or their website for $175-$200 it's a no brainer deal. But I would maybe recommend buying on the website because I think you get the carry case there and a cable. (I didn't receive either one from this seller, but it came in the HexGaming box... *shrug*) Pros: Quality feel, great mouse click triggers, ease of use, recalibration tool for stick drift or etc, plug and play, hall effect sensors, 4 mouse click back buttons, 6 different back button profiles, no latency, and honestly a fantastic grip! (Didn't Test Rumblers, speaker, microphone, or adaptive triggers.) Cons: Requires a loose grip due to back button placement. Seems some people run into button issues down the line, (I haven't). Amazon seller doesn't come with the case or cable for charging. Personally I don't like the backbutton placement so I don't use them but that's probably personal opinion. Battery drains faster than a standard PS5 controller BUT that's expected from hall effect sensors. Overall: Could be a better price like around $175-200 ($249 before tax seems a bit steep, but hey competition & inflation). Tbh it does a fantastic job overall, and is well worth the money! I give it a 8.5/10, just wish they made a cheaper/different one without the back buttons, but instead with a bigger battery, then it would be 10/10!

Really Impressive controller
I have tried just about every popular controller at this point (dual sense edge, scuf envision, Xbox elite series 2, turtle beach stealth ultra, razer wolverine V3 pro, Flydigi Vader 4 Pro, and many more) and this one is probably the best I have used. The phantom does 3 things incredibly well: the hair triggers, the Hall effect sticks that can be calibrated, and the placement of the back buttons. The sticks are incredibly accurate to the point it even picks up the minute movements that none of my other controllers do (admittedly, this can be a bad thing at times in FPS games that don’t have aim assist lol, but turning the sensitivity down slightly makes it just like the others if you can’t get used to it). The hair triggers are the best I’ve used. They are micro click and they are absolutely instant. I can say it definitely made a difference in FPS games, especially when using a semi automatic option. The back buttons are the main reason I gave this controller a try because after being a long time elite series 2 user, I fell in love with the feel of the dual sense edge, but really missed having 4 back buttons with 1 finger per trigger. These are placed in a very ergonomic way such that it feels just as comfortable as my elite series 2, though I wish they were slightly harder to press as they are a little on the sensitive side. I have narrowed my extensive controller search to the Vader 4 pro and this. Each has its pros and cons, but I think the phantom beats the Vader 4 pro in just about every way. The elephant in the room is the price. Do I think the phantom is 3x better than the Vader 4 pro? Definitely not. I think this controller should be priced at no more than $199.00 and it would be a fair value for money. It’s just really hard to justify the cost of 3 Vader 4 Pro controllers for just 1 of these… TL;DR: it’s an amazing controller with every feature you could want, but the price is a little steep compared to controllers like the Vader 4 Pro which includes a very similar feature set for 1/3 of the price.

Overall a Solid Controller
I’m hesitant to leave a 5 star review before using this controller for a few months at least, but so far it’s been great. It feels comfortable, the back buttons vs back paddles that I’m used to actually feel much better. The controller was very easy to set up as well. I’ve used Scuf, Aimcontroller, and Razer controllers, but this one ranks among the top. I just wish they offered more customization options for faceplates, but that isn’t enough to take away from the quality so far. Not to mention that the price is great for what you get. If the bumpers or something stops working (like every other back paddle controller I’ve owned has) within a few months, I’ll update this review.

Two purchase attempts, two problems on arrival - no thanks
UPDATE Oct 2025 It's only fair that if I critique and things change, I should update accordingly. In light the recent Xbox issues, I've moved away from Team Green and decided to fully invest in Team Blue. But... I needed a rock solid, highly rated, programmable controller with back paddles. Thus, based on research, I ended up at HEXGAMING once more. Long story short, a few months later, I decided to give it that "third time's a charm" attempt - for two reasons. 1. There's no doubt, community reviews rate this product highly. 2. After my prior (see below) review, the manufacturer contacted me directly and asked more about the issues I'd bumped into. In other words, they cared. Though I'd already returned the controller, that "care" made a dent. REVIEW The initial presentation is excellent. High quality box with individually packaged components. Comes with no thumb sticks installed but provides eight sticks - four standard length, four taller length with styles of caps. They are extremely easy to install and are snug. Instructions easy to read (with multiple languages) so back paddles can remapped via a hardware button combination (no software or app needed). Quite elegant. Rubber grips provide a nice, tactile hold. I've put the controller through its paces over the last few days - zero issues. A pleasure to use, especially the smooth (hall effect mechanism) are excellent. Rating adjusted from 2/5 to 4/5 stars - the only reason I didn't go 5/5 is because I don't know about it's long term use. Now worked for me, may work for you. ORIGINAL REVIEW Controller was highly recommended by a content creator so I thought I would take a closer look. Price is a touch high at $249 but I'm ok paying for quality - as long as I get quality. Not the case with this product. First purchase, product arrived quickly, nice presentation, felt good in the hands, with several excellent thumb stick choices. Upon first use, left hand rumble pack was extremely noisy with a clattering sound upon activation. Nope, returned. Perhaps just a bad controller? Let's try again. Second controller arrived quickly, same initial impressions but right thumb stick creaked and groaned under any use. It was shockingly loud, where the left thumb stick was smooth and quiet. Ok, now that's two in a row. Though a small data set, 0-2 did not inspire confidence and I don't believe I'll be going for "third time is a charm." QC needs to be better for this price point.

0/2 On a controller that is not defective.
Loved the controller but the back plate didn't fit and stuck out alittle and was sharp enough to cut your hand open. Ordered a 2nd controller for a replacement and package was soaked wet which is amazon's fault. But both joysticks were not attached or brokens and they just hung with no resistance. Trying a 3rd time but this will be my last. I honestly don't even trust the controller lasting very long. I went with Hex over Aim because amazon is safer. Maybe I will have to roll the dice with Aim.

Outstanding customer service
I purchased my controller jan 1st 2025. After about a year my controller's R2 button was not working like it once had. I noticed it was pulling hard to the right it looked like the spring had popped out. It also looked like the fastener had most definitely broke. I panicked a little bit. It was expensive. So I managed to send Hex Gaming a message via Facebook messenger. I didn't think I would get respond 2 days later got my 1st response. With a few responses back and forth. I sent my controller back for a full replacement. I knew it would take some time to receive the replacement controller, and because this company seem to be so stand- up I need a controller. I purchased a second one. So ya I would definitely recommend this company and their controller best customer service and care thank you Hex Gaming

Very mediocre for such an expensive controller
Unfortunately this controller has some serious short comings that make it absolutely not worth buying, especially at this price point. The calibration process is a pretty clunky. It works and isn't that hard to do, but will require some trial and error. But needing to connect a thin cable to a very delicate clamp connector on the controller is pretty ridiculous. The location of the 4 back buttons is absolutely terrible. There is no way for me to hold the control and it not feel awkward if I want to have the back buttons ready to be pressed at a moments notice. The controller itself is also kinda slippery. I find it gets out of position constantly. This is not an issue I have with any other controller. When I play on PC I use my flydigi apex 4 and absolutely love it. Unfortunately on ps5 options are limited and the apex 4 doesn't work on the PS5. Every time I use this controller it makes me wish I could use the apex 4 more and more. This would be a pretty okay controller for $70-100 since it's not terrible and the triggers are pretty neat. But for a $250 controller, it's incredibly disappointing. For it to be a medicore controller at this price point, it may as well be complete junk. I'll keep searching for a good PS5 with 4 back buttons, because this is not it.
