Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (Nintendo Switch)

Happy little Switch game highly recommended for young players

I brought this game for the switch, something that I could pick up and put down easily. Captain toads adventure was a great choice, the simple single level designs are great for a quick game here and there, but you’re able to play a few levels as its easily learnable and something you can pick up at any level or skill and play. The level deigns and simple yet varied enough that you can happily play them for a long time without getting board. The look of the levels are great too, especially on the OLED switch, the colours really pop. Overall, a great game and one that I’m glad and happy to have played the whole way through. One too for any level of gamer too a great game at a great price too.

Bought this as a bit of a curveball Christmas present for my son. We'd both enjoyed playing Mario 3D world but had found the Captain Toad levels tricky and it had led to lots of shouting!! What better than to buy a game dedicated to just Captain Toad! The game itself was surprisingly good, the graphics and the game play are much better than in 3D World. There is also an added challenge to each game which makes things much trickier. Lots of different settings and multiple levels. A great purchase.

This game is very cute and is a very novel approach to puzzle based gameplay. Playing as captain toad your tasked to collect diamonds and stars to progress and while its easy at first, collecting everything may take some extra and out the box thinking. For starters Captain toad, unlike Mario, cannot jump. Forcing you to use your surroundings and knowledge you obtain to get even the most out of reach diamonds. Each level is its own thing and has its own charm and challenges. Music is very Nintendo and very pleasant to accompany you throughout. And yes even boss battles are here. How do you beat them without any ability to jump.....well that wuld be spoiling tge joy f finding the solution. Controls are good for the most part. This is a wii u port so playing in handheld mode is the ideal way of playing. But it looks so good on a bigger screen so I had to try the joy cons out and.....well it works fine. Keeping them separate and using the right joy con as a pointer for interaction works well and if you've used a wiimote and knunchuck set up before then tis is fine. The pointer is always on screen though which is a shame. But doesn't hinder from the experience. This is a lovely, charming little game and its great to see something different and diverse. Here's to hoping captain toad (and todette) can find a new adventure for a sequel. On a side note I have to point out those "extra" Mario odyssey levels are not exactly extra. They replace the super Mario 3d world levels so, while they are new, theirs missing content from the original release.

(Please keep in mind at the time of writing this review I have only completed the few couple of levels and have 2 hours in game, I will update my review if I feel I need to add something I may have missed here) (Edit: after playing some currently 5 hours in game, I'm still happy with my review) I never played the WiiU version of this so this is my first experience with a Captain Toad. My first impression is that this is a very fun, addictive, puzzle platformer game with most of the focus being on the puzzles. As a fan of puzzle games this is a really nice pick up and re-release for the switch. You can use the Toad amiibo to gain invincibility or any of the Mario Odyssey amiibo to unlock a few bonus Mario Odyssey levels (or complete all levels to unlock the odyseey levels if you don't have the Odyssey amiibos) and you can use your odyseey amiibos to gain1up mushrooms. The game plays well, docked and in handheld mode, although for the full experience I would recommend playing in handheld as some of the puzzles utilize the touch screen and that is something I've yet to see on the Switch and it works really well and I really enjoy using the touch screen for certain puzzles. The puzzles start off simple and progressively get harder. There's a variety of bonus challenges in each level apart from collecting the gems such as "collect 70 coins" "don't get seen by any shyguys" and "kill all enemies" etc these can add a little extra challenge for the completionists not to mention a find pixel toad bonus game in each level where you have to navigate through the level and find the hidden Toad which at times can be tricky to find but at lot of fun and really allows you the player to appreciate all the small details of the levels. For the current price of £30, I think this is a great pickup for Switch owners, whether you are a Mario fan or not I think you can really appreciate and enjoy this game for what it is. The game is very colorful, cute, challenging, fun and really gets you thinking. Overall I think it's a great spin off to the Mario series and I hope we see another Captain Toad game in the future for the Nintendo Switch. 9/10

This game gets a major yes to have in your collection as a first party nintendo exclusive. Get it if you can for anything below 3k. There are even expansion packs for this on online as add-on costing 5$ to add even more number of levels.

** Préambule ** ** Pour ceux qui se pose la question : le jeu est bien en français. ** Les aventures du petit Toad encore une fois mis à l'honneur dans ce super jeu de Nintendo. Jouabilité parfaite, amusement, monde mignon et gameplay très facile à prendre en main. Oui, c'est pareil dans tous les jeux Mario, et c'est justement ce qu'on apprécie. Vraiment sympa sur a switch, on peut jouer avec mon neveu des heures durant. J'ai voulu lui offrir pour Noël, mais son anniversaire tombant quelques jours avant, j'ai préféré le déballer et l'essayer avec lui. Je confirme donc l'expression "pour petits et grands" qui s'appliquent bien ici. J'espère que ce commentaire vous aura plu ainsi qu’aider dans votre choix ! ;)

A nuestra niña le ha encantado. Es un juego muy entretenido, hay que ir pasando fases. Como el Toad es unos de los personajes de Mario, es atractivo para los niños. A nosotros nos ha gustado mucho.
