For the price this is an outstanding entry level radio for those of us learning ham radio. The radio is stamped FCC compliant so that's what I'm going to go with. This radio helped me a lot during hurricane Helene here in Asheville. Now I have 3 of them. Color screen, decent tactical antenna that I was able to get pretty good transmit and receive on. If you are looking for a good starting spot. The 5RM is the way to go. Arrived on time and as described; you can't ask for more than that-

C'mon, all of this for less that $60. I know this isn't Kenwood or ICOM quality, but they do work and are as advertised. The batteries would last almost 24 hours on standby whilst scanning, they feel fairly well made and have decent audio. This is a good cheap way to start with HAM radio without a large investment, which was my intention and I am quite satisfied with my purchase!

Nice to have 10 watts to reach out!!And can also use GMRS frequencies (I’m licensed)And hear the air frequencies.Solid build.Inexpensive way to get into amateur radio.

Still waiting to fully use - it may be well be a 5, but just haven't been able to fully test. Looks good; charged well; initial start-up and testing good. Need to load channels.

Happy with the radios so far. I am only licensed GMRS right now but I am studying for the HAM license. I like that these radios do both.They came already programed with the GMRS and repeaters programmed.We tested them the other day and were able to transmit around 5 miles with the tactical antennas.I purchased an adapter that will allow us to use the radios with our motorcycle headsets and we will be using them on our big group rides as they will have a much longer range than our Bluetooth based headsets.Shipping was fast and the seller sent an email to make sure I was happy with my purchase and offer support if needed.

I bought this pair (wish I had received for free like others) because I wanted a radio that is capable of working across different bands, services, and frequencies. I read a 1 star review that said the radio is illegal, but that's a load of BS. The listing states HAM, GMRS, and Multiband. It has more capabilities than the FCC may allow you to transmit on, so if you're looking for a strictly GMRS radio that you can only use with a GMRS license, then this is not for you. If you're looking for a radio that is capable of communicating on far more frequencies than only GMRS, and understand the FCC rules, then this is for you. Do some research before buying a product so that you understand what you should and should not do with it, but don't blame the product by saying that it's illegal, that is just ignorance. Owning a HAM radio without a HAM operator's license and listening on various frequencies is not illegal. Also understand that transmitting on certain frequencies is not a crime but may be subject to FCC fines if you are caught doing so.These radios have many features that take some time to learn if you've never used a HAM radio before. If you want something that only works on GMRS and has no learning curve, and requires no programming, there are many choices out there.Hope this helps!

I actually returned these because they were too complicated and difficult for me to program, but they are high tech quality made beautiful radios with all the bells and whistles just too many bells and whistles for me. 🫣
