A Little Bear with a Big Bite: The Kizer Drop Bear EDC Knife
I've been on the hunt for the perfect everyday carry (EDC) knife for a while, and after seeing all the positive buzz, I decided to give the Kizer Drop Bear a shot. Let me tell you, this little knife has quickly earned its place as a permanent resident in my pocket.First off, the design is a winner. The acrylic handle is a nice touch, giving it a unique, almost custom look that stands out from the usual G10 or carbon fiber. It's surprisingly comfortable in hand, with a great ergonomic feel that makes it easy to grip and use for extended tasks. The size is also perfect for EDC—at 2.98 inches, the blade is long enough for practical use without being intimidating or cumbersome. It's just right for everything from opening packages to food prep. But the real star of the show is the blade and the action. The Nitro-V steel holds an edge exceptionally well, and I've found it very easy to sharpen when needed. It’s a great balance of toughness and edge retention for an EDC knife. What really sets the Drop Bear apart, however, is the clutch lock and thumb stud opener. The action is buttery smooth right out of the box, and the lockup is rock solid. It's incredibly satisfying to deploy and close, and I've found myself fidgeting with it more than I probably should. The thumb stud is perfectly positioned, making one-handed operation a breeze for both left- and right-handed users.Kizer has really hit a home run with the Drop Bear. It's not just a good-looking knife; it's a highly functional, well-built tool that excels at being a reliable EDC companion. Whether you’re a knife enthusiast or just looking for a solid, everyday pocket knife, I can't recommend the Kizer Drop Bear enough. It's a fantastic value for the quality you get.

Excellent EDC blade
The media could not be loaded. I’ve had the drop bear for about 4 months now and it has been an excellent everyday carry knife. It has an incredibly smooth action thanks to the adjustable clutch lock. I keep mine in the stiffest setting and it holds well and has a very snappy motion. I mostly use it for breaking down boxes and cutting through various plastics and it has been a fantastic tool. The scales are contoured and rounded nicely and the shape is overall very ergonomic, I have not had any “hot spots” while using the knife. The jimping on the spine of the blade is nice, especially that it extends so far. It’s not too grippy, but when pressure is applied it holds tight.Take note that this version of the drop bear is a bit different to the original and some of the other variations. It is slightly slimmer, as the liners are recessed into the scales. I enjoy this quite a lot as it is not as bulky in the pocket and has a more precise feel when using. The nitro-v steel has been great as well. I touch it up on a ceramic rod and strop, but that is all, it has held its edge well. I was surprised how easy it is to bring it back to razor sharp, much easier than d2.

Kizer got it RIGHT!
The Drop Bear is a fantastic knife! One of those models in which all the individual features work very well and then work together to form a superlative whole: the action, smoothness, lock, materials, aesthetics, build quality, and colors. The action is smooth, not clunky, stiff, or gritty. Kizer has the manufacturing tolerances just ‘so’, and it makes for a reliable and solid working mechanism. It’s easy to flick open with the thumb stud, yet at the same time, easy to slide the lock bar and freely swing it open or closed like a button lock. Kizer has gotten the détentes just right to achieve no-bounce closure and opening, with minimal effort to overcome the détente resistance. I added a drop of KPL (Knife Pivot Lube) oil to the pivot works where the raw metal-on-metal of the crossbar and blade cam got the tiniest bit gritty, but that friction is almost unavoidable without a jeweler’s polishing of the internal parts (which would start to skyrocket the price.) Nitro V is a good blade steel choice since it is a better steel without getting up into the escalating prices of the impossible-to-sharpen premium steels. It's cool to get a glimpse of the inner workings with the translucent PEI Ultem (pee-colored!) scales. The yellow color looks great with the black metal parts, with a tiny accent of blue color on the thumbstuds and the glint of silver along the sharpened blade edge. A thing I don’t know is the impact resistance of the Ultem plastic scales; if I drop this knife on a cement floor, might something crack, or will it be unscathed? Don’t know. You may have subjective preferences about the blade shape, knife size, and colors, but an objective look at the workmanship, materials, and workability of the Drop Bear will not disappoint.

Pretty Much Perfect
It is extremely light and easy to throw in your pocket. It comes razor sharp out of the box. It is nice and fidgety, but I will note that the locking mechanism is slightly stiff. I tried opening it left handed and it seems a little bit difficult to open, but since I'm right handed its not an issue. What I will say is that with the Benchmade Bugout, you only have to use one finger on the axis lock for it to work, but it seems to get a little bit stuck, so using two is better. Other than that, this knife is perfect, and it is fantastic for the price.

Great edc
Great knife. I never had an ultem knife before so I gave it a try. Definitely prefer g10 or micarta but the texture makes it grippy enough. Great design. Kizer does their clutch lock well. If I could do it again I would probably save up for a more premium version.
