Easy and challenging
Bought this for my 9mo old gr-baby for Christmas. She loved it. She could turn and remove the gears easily. It kept her interest for a few minutes which is about what I expected. Fast forward 8mo and she is still fascinated by it.It’s fun to play with, very well made, the colors are bold and eye catching, and best of all, there is much to be learned from this little toy. Also, the price is fantastic for what you get.I expect she will play with it for a couple more years at least. Another big plus for me is that it isn’t digital. It has no screen or power supply. It doesn’t have lights or play music. It’s just an investigative and imaginative toy that will last for a long time.I highly recommend this toy for any young child.

Good quality and very cute!
The price and quality are a win for me! Just the cutest way to work with kids on colors, matching, sorting, etc. I’ll continue to look for and buy from this brand.

Well made and educational
This "toy" is just what I wanted for my great-grandson. He absolutely loves it. He was immediately in awe of the brightly colored gears and his interaction with them was a sight to behold. This product is so good-the pieces are durable, the gears interlock and turn the "innards" of the caterpillar and create a focus of wonder. Knowing the Melissa and Doug brand already from previous purchases, this item exceeded my expectations. A definite thumbs up>>>>>

Good Toy for Fine Motor and Color Matching
This is a toy we bought for our handsome little man to work with him on his fine motor skills (he has delays) and to start working on matching and sorting by colors (because the gear pegs are the same color as their gear, so we originally had him just getting the gears on anywhere, them moved him up to getting the gears on the right color pegs).I think the toy is well made, and from the standpoint of what we were using it for, I think it worked fine. And because our son loves to make things form a line of some sort, he found it to be a more motivating fine motor toy.My only reason for taking a star would be that because of the simplicity of the gear line up, I am personally not sure it would hold the interest of your average typical functioning toddlers for very long. But as a mom of a boy with some more specialized challenges who is very motivated by bright colors and things he can line up and put away, I was very happy with it and what he was able to get out of it.
