The critics are wrong! Here's why
This game is getting heavily trashed and it's for a simple reason. It's so much of a simulation it's in some people's eyes eliminating the fun factor. I totally disagree. The graphics, although not NBA 2K or The Show level obviously, are the best that have been seen in a tennis game yet. Are the animations a little stiff sometimes, sure but nothing to the level people are describing. There's is no commentating but outside of Grand Slam Tennis 2 and extremely poor commentating in Tennis World Tour, this is nothing new for console tennis games, though I would like to see that addressed by someone,it is 2018 after all. The controls are very similar to Top Spin 4,the best tennis game ever made or reviewed so people complaining about how it plays are being extremely hypocritical. I actually think the gameplay is a touch BETTER in this game, but it's very close. The stat overlays are very sharply presented and I like the overall look of the game. I was expecting an eyesore based on what I was reading prior to playing it myself and I was pleasantly surprised. It isn't perfect however. As I mentioned before animations can be a little ridgid but it is nowhere close to a gamebreaker. You'll get used to accounting for that when timing your shots after about 10 minutes with the game. And the ball physics are a little floaty,a few times a ball hit along the line which looked like it would fall in tended to go out randomly but it didn't kill my experience with this. But that is the only negatives I see. I also love they put challenges in this game,a nice touch. This is NOT arcade tennis. It is an authentic simulation, think Golf Club as compared to Rory McElroy or The Show compared to RBI Baseball. If you don't like sim,id advize against picking this up. But for authentic tennis, you're not doing better than this.

The game is a challenge to get comfortable with in regards to hitting the ball with good timing and control. Once you get a little more comfortable with that, i like how they allow you to play tournaments with just men or women. Tennis Wold Tour doesn't allow that, or allow you to switch their outfits. The game also provides you analysis on each opponents game play such as serving spots and percentage, the placement of ground strokes, as well as the spots where your hitting winners. Also keep in mind it allows you to challenge the linesman when they call your shots out on serves and ground strokes. Its an awesome game once you get past the frustration on learning how to actually play.

Good tennis game, takes time to master the controls
This is a good tennis game, but do not expect arcade...Mario Tennis...style controls. They focused on timing of the swing, player position relative to the ball, and point of contact to determine how good of a shot your player hits. It takes patience and time to master, but after a while I was able to be competitive with the AI players. At that point, it became more fun to play.
