not designed correctly
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. All of the foam filters i have seen send air down a center tube and the bubbles come back up through a larger tube in order to create some suction. The way this filter is designed, there is a larger tube, but the bubbles just go around that tube and not through it. This leads me to believe this is a cheap knock off filter and will not work properly

These fellas are really small
It's honestly not all that easy to tell what kind of suction power these smaller unit have. One of them can not handle a 10 gal tank on it's own, and a 5 gal tank housing something like "fry" or a couple of "trios" of guppies or a small school of cardinals would be pushing it's limits. Anything under those levels and they do quite well. I have one of these combined with a bubble filter in a 10 gal tank with an 8 inch Frontosa. She has been in there for nearing a month for treatment, and the filters have kept that tank ship shape and bristle fashion. I use them most often in 1 gal. and 2.5 gal tanks housing my bettas.

Air bubbles not gentle enough for 5-gallon Betta tank
Good fit for my 5-gallon glass Betta tank, however the pump (standard, non-adjustable flow, popular brand/model) and tube size on this filter created bubbles that were far too big and strong for a small tank where calm water is necessary for Bettas. Couldn't use this after 5 minutes of testing it, unfortunately, but I know I can't return it either.

Works great for such cheap price
I got this as a backup. I wasn’t sure how good it would work but wow ... the dirt that comes out when I squeeze it in my bucket after a water change and it’s black. I use it on a ten gallon. Most of the time I use it as the only filter then right befor a water change I stir up the tank put a small power filter in to get all that stuff out then after water change take out power filter. I was really surprised at this cheap little thing. - you do need an air pump and airline tubing to go with it.

TOO BIG!
I ordered this because people were talking about putting it in a 5 gal tank. there's no image with a size comparison, nothing points to how huge it is. what I got would be appropriate for a 55gal tank. it's as big as my head!

No good
Will NOT stay down. Floats right back up. If you put rocks on it to hold it down, The filtration is lost. Tube is too big for a sucken suction tab. Bubbles can be heard in the next room. Learned my lesson AND to read fine print ( When it is NOT CHINESE)!!

Updated review
I have ordered the XY-180, and it's is a good filter for a 10g. I took a chance and ordered the XY-2891 and I can't say the same. The outlet tube is smaller and releases huge inconsistent bubbles. As well, after 3 days the filter won't sink...
