One of the best Science / Fantasy fiction series ever written and funny with it
I first heard the Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy on the radio, the media for which it was written. "The answer to Life, The Universe and Everything is 42" is a quote which is frequently made thus showing that "Hitchhikers" has become one of the more favourite books in the world and beyond. The original concept was unique and the writing had me in fits of laughter from the start. As the series progressed from the trio to five volumes it got more and more surreal but never lost its humorous base. I still have the original paperback books but to have the stories on a Kindle means I do not have to carry them all around with me. Even after a number of re-reads the whole story is still as entertaining as ever and I am still trying to fly "Just throw yourself at the ground and miss." If I could I would give it 42 stars!

Whatever you do, don't forget your Towel.
This... Is truly a masterpiece. Many books have been called thus, but this one has two distinct advantages over them. First, its reasonable price, and second of all, that the words DON'T PANIC are written on it.But in all seriousness. This book is so good that its going to be a classic for the longest time ever. I read this book fifteen years ago for the first time, and when I saw it suggested on amazon, I laughed out loud and purchased it immediately. I mean, withing 15 seconds. Which, incidentally, is how long it takes Arthur Dent to plonk himself in front of a bulldozer outside his house. So yes. If you love a good book, but also enjoy a huge laugh, then this is for you. If, on the other hand, are a vapid, vacant staring mouth breather who enjoys nothing but being generally miserable, then you'll hate this. Mein Kampf is in the historical section. So long, and thanks for all the laughs, Mr Adams. I won't stop laughing till I join you, a sentiment I'm sure millions share.

5 books in 1
It was good to read them all one after another.I’d not read mostly harmless before. For some reason Fenchurch is one of my favourite characters and there time spent flying is good. Slartibartfast isn’t as nice as I remembered. Douglas Adams wrote books round one or two good jokes.

The first installation in an epic series!
Having started watching Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency on Netflix, I found myself wanting to re-read this awesome book! The first installation in the epic series follows the four eventual crew members of the starship Heart of Gold:Arthur Dent -Dent is a human from the planet Earth. Arthur's home is due to be bulldozed by the local council. Little does he know that, simultaneously, the entire Earth is about to be bulldozed for a hyperspatial express route, by the Galactic Hyperspace Planning Council.Ford Prefect -Ford is from a 'small planet somewhere in the vicinity of Betelgeuse.' On Earth (Where he was stranded for 15 years) he imitated being an out-of-work actor. In reality, he is a roving researcher for the book, "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy."Zaphod Beeblebrox -Zaphod is the (two-headed, three-armed) President of the Imperial Galactic Government. A title that he surrendered when he stole the Improbability Drive protype ship (i.e. Heart of Gold). He is also a "semi-cousin" of Ford Prefect.Trillian (Tricia McMillan) -Trillian is a Hitchhiker from Earth (like Arthur Dent, she is also human). She has a degree in maths and another in astrophysics. She met Zaphod at a fancy dress party. However, we mustn't forget Marvin! A manic depressive 'Genuine People Personalities' prototype robot, who is also aboard Heart of Gold. All in all, a fabulous series that I know I'll read again and again ... and again and again and again and again and again.

Why haven't i already read this?
So I've reached the age of 42 without ever reading the book, seeing the film or the series of hitchhikers guide. Two friends in work were using lines out of it a month back. Lines such as I know where my towel is and the answer to everything is 42. My age coincidentally. So I asked them what they were on about and they told me. They were as shocked as me that I hadn't ever seen or read it what with me being a Sci fi fan. I don't know how I bypassed it really.Anyway, so I bought the books that night and I'm glad I did.I'm only two books in and I have read the reviews on here that say they go downhill after the 2nd but I honestly feel I've already had my moneys worth from the first two.Whilst it's not laugh out loud funny all the time, I have had moments where I laughed. What I found is it is constantly amusing, a smirk or a chuckle has only ever been a page away. But by far the best quality to these books is the ideas they present, page after page of a most unique and interesting galaxy where fantastic and credible futuristic visions of how the wider universe could be living as we speak are explained in a humorous and fascinating way. This coupled with the ridiculous, mind boggling crazy ideas that he throws into the mix had me flicking pages for more time than I should on a night before early work.Totally recommend the first two in the series and despite the criticisms I am still looking forward to reading the rest.

Intriguing and fun
Unique, full of fantasy but very often comparable to how life on earth is today (in our reality), inriguing, fun and thought provoking.

Lovely hardcover collected edition
I'm very happy with this edition of Adams' HHGttG series. I don't really care about the forewords/intros they added and haven't reached the additional materials yet, but the book itself is nicely bound, I like the cover, and the little ribbon bookmark is a nice touch. If I had one nitpick it would be that the pages are a little thin so you can kind of see the text on the other side. That hardly ruins the book though.

Superou minhas expectativas
The media could not be loaded.
