The Handbook of Doll Repair and Restoration

I restore vintage 50s era hard plastic dolls. This book had basically nothing useful for me. Maybe a tiny bit about wigs, but that’s it.

This book is for the most part dedicated to bisque, parian, and china doll repair. Unfortunately there is very little detailed information on repair of composition dolls which was my main purpose in purchasing this book. I wish it had let the reader know that it was basically for that type of doll on the jacket.

I am new to the world of doll repair so got this book because of the reviews. It seems to be very comprehensive and gives a lot of hints on the types of products to use and why. I think this will be one of my primary reference books (if not THE primary one) for years to come. Even though it was published some time ago, the dolls it discusses are of the era I'm interested, so everything still applies. The only changes may be the introduction of new products since publication but a little online research should sort that out. The basic information and tecniques are the same anyway, so I'm very pleased. Highly recommended!!

Quality information that can't be found elsewhere! Essential if you're buying antique damaged or have a damaged doll. Or want to make one from parts.

Appears to be a great resource

This book is just what I ordered. I have used this book as a reference for some years, but I lost a copy during a move. Anyone who is interested in this kind of hobby work will find this book invaluable. I was so pleased to find a copy available for purchase, as I had feared it was out of print. Reading and understanding what is being taught in this book is easy. Good book.

This book, as many others on clothing and repair is meant particularly for Antique dolls. If you are working with 1940 to 1960 dolls, you will have to dig in several pamphlets and some books to find out how to repair these dolls. Some repairs are very difficult with walking and head turning dolls.

Nicely done with lots of info and photos that for a novice are a great big help. I would purchase from this vendor again!

I ordered this book to help me repair a fully-jointed pre-1920 composition doll body, after finding that the internet just didn't cover how to restring dolls of this kind. The instructions in this book are very detailed and well explained. It's clear the author has wide experience and also a gift for teaching. I believe the imformation about repainting composition is somewhat out of date. This is the only drawback I can see to the very detailed treatment of all aspects of restoration, including a lot about bisque repair and resetting eyes. All types of antique doll bodies are discussed. Another good aspect is a chapter about how to recognise fakery of all kinds.

The book arrived sooner than predicted. It is in lovely condition, I have not yet read it all but appears to be just what I wanted/needed.

Interesting, but you need more information to work with an old and marvellous doll.

With this book everything was excellent: description, price, time of delivery, and most of all the book itself. I'd gladly order another book in this shop again.
