Is this product contain optical brighteners?

No, Woolite products don't have optical brighteners in them.

Is this product really as good as advertised?

Yes, it's really great for cleaning well while protecting fabric, elastic, etc. and keeping them from stretching out. Clothes come out very soft with a pleasant, very mild scent. My clothes last a lot longer when I wash them with Woolite. To me that's money saved, even if Woolite is a lot more expensive than what you'd pay for the "rougher" laundry liquids.

I have never used it on silk, but I use it on almost everything else. If you can wash it in cold water, I would assume you could use it on silk on the gentle cycle. Hope this helps.

What makes this “he” ok while original woolite is not? If I watered down my original woolite would it be safe for my “he” machine?

Because HE (High Efficiency) machines require a low-sudsing detergent, it is recommended that a HE detergent, is used in these machines. Excess foam can prevent proper tumbling action and therefore reduce cleaning. Also, the tumble action of front-loading, high efficiency washers creates more suds than the agitator actions of traditional washers. Woolite® brand detergents are safe for use in High Efficiency (HE) washing machines when they bear an HE symbol on the product label. We do not recommend using a diluted regular detergent in a HE machine. Before laundering any garment, in addition to following the instructions on our product's label, we recommend that you carefully read and follow the manufacturers' instructions on the care label sewn inside the garment and always follow the directions for use in the owner's manual for the washing machine.

I've used Woolite for "forever". It's a great product for gentle cleaning and protecting fabrics. The scent is very pleasant , not at all overwhelming. I'm writing this review to primarily address concerns about spillage in shipment. Those concerns were heard, because mine arrived with tape over lids onto the bottle.
